Calgary Flames Trade Elias Lindholm To Vancouver Canucks | What A Package As A Seller

Literally in the second time in a couple of months. The Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks made a trade but this time it’s a more significant package as the Calgary Flames are looking to sell off assets who are pending unrestricted free agents while the Vancouver Canucks are looking to load up for a deep playoff run.

After the Calgary Flames traded away defenseman Nikita Zadorov a couple of months ago for a couple of draft picks and no retained salary. Calgary Flames traded away one of their bigger pieces in Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks for Andrei Kuzmenko with two defensive prospects and two draft picks. Say quite a haul for someone who wasn’t likely going to re-sign with the Calgary Flames after the 2023-24 season.

How the trade breaks down:

To Calgary Flames
LW/RW Andrei Kuzmenko
D Hunter Brzustewicz
D Joni Jurmo
2024 1st Round Pick
Conditional 2024 4th Round Pick*
*(Converts To 2024 3rd Round Pick If Vancouver Canucks Make It To The Conference Final)

To Vancouver Canucks
C Elias Lindholm

Calgary Flames get five pieces for one in this deal and could set the price for the NHL Trade Deadline as it’s still a few weeks away. Would say I’m happy with the deal given who we received and the potential offensive upside and character for an unrestricted free agent that seemed to be already leaving anyway. Early returns look promising for both teams but maybe Andrei Kuzmenko could be the catalyst for Jonathan Huberdeau for the Calgary Flames. Add in Andrei Kuzmenko had to waive no trade to Calgary Flames to make it happen.

Calgary Flames since when Craig Conroy got named as general manager has traded away three pending unrestricted free agents and added nine pieces over three trades. Received quantity and some quality for a team that need to retool and rebuild with the new regime as playoff is looking unlikely again for the Calgary Flames in 2024 while the Vancouver Canucks are seeking a Stanley Cup.

What do you think of this trade between the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks? Interesting to see another trade between these two divisional rivals literally two months apart and is significant. Also bring back some trade history again.
