The Montreal Canadiens beat the Islanders 4-3| Brendan Gallagher’s hit deserves a long suspension

Inside today’s Locked on Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens finally snapped their losing ways with a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders in Patrick Roy’s return to Montreal as Islanders coach. A hot power play saw goals from both Nick Suzuki and Sean Monahan, plus an incredible effort from Cole Caufield give the Habs a 3-0 lead. It looked like Montreal was set to easily snap their losing streak before a match penalty for Brendan Gallagher turned things on its head. While the Islanders battled back to tie the game, a late goal from Sean Monahan and some incredible work from Samuel Montembeault salvaged a regulation win for the Habs.

The hosts however are extremely upset with Brendan Gallagher, whose hit to the head of Adam Pelech forced his team to kill a five-minute power play off. It resulted in the Islanders tying the game, and forced Samuel Montembeault to be near-superhuman to end the game. Scott and Laura debate how long they think Gallagher should be suspended for, and how long they think the Department of Player Safety will actually suspend him for this weekend.

Finally, it is the 1000th episode of Locked on Canadiens!

Both hosts muse on their time behind the microphone as they recap their time on this show, and take some listener questions about the journey to this point!

  1. Gally's actions were out of character for him and it almost cost the team the game but I've seen worse.

  2. Montreal hockey defined. There’s is no place in hockey or any sport for the lack of respect that the Montreal Canadiens consistently display. This is not 1 player. It’s team culture. Fans were cheering the hit and booing the penalty call. Everything you need to know about the city of Montreal is on full display.

  3. Thank you for your dedication!! Congratulations for reaching 1000 episodes!! Love your show

  4. One thousand episodes! Congratulations to both of you and thank you for your daily Habs chat over the past five years! It's much needed for this Habs fan in the heart of enemy territory.

  5. Ghallager should be gone. That hit shows his true character. That behavior doesn’t come out of nowhere. Deep down he is a rat, he made Marchand and Trouba look like angels. 😂

If I was the Habs coach he is going to the AHL for the rest of the season. He almost threw the game with that disgusting hit.

On top of that it was on Roy’s return to Montreal. Not only does he disrespect himself the game of hockey and the organization he plays for. A great organization like the Habs should not tolerate such disgusting behavior.

  6. not saying it was right … but possibly a retaliatory move … still not the right thing to do

  7. QUESTION FOR THE MAIL BAG!!::
sean monahan is like one of 5 people actually scoring goals for this team so why does the Internet seem to think he needs to be traded?!?!
