Looking back at Miikka Kiprusoff’s time with the Calgary Flames.
The Flames had missed the playoffs for seven consecutive years, and were destined to make it eight, when Darryl Sutter traded for a little known goalie named Miikka Kiprusoff.
The Finnish goalie took the Flames all the way to Game 7 of the 2003-2004 Stanley Cup Finals, and gave the Flames incredible goaltending for nine seasons.
The Flames will retire Kiprusoff’s jersey number 34 on March 2nd, 2024.
Includes NHL highlights, Calgary Flames highlights, and Miikka Kiprusoff highlights.

Really happy I stumbled across this channel! Love the knowledge you share in your videos, really hope you get more recognition from people
Kiprusoff sure was a lot of fun to watch play. Great goalie.
Is there any chance we can convince Kipper to play for us again? He would be a massive upgrade in net for us even at his age and time away from hockey.
Although a stick propped up in the net would also be an upgrade, so I guess that's not as big a compliment as I intended it to be.
great work. i loved watching kipper play and im still sore about 2004 to this day! haha
Greatest Finnish goalie. And childhood favorite
They overplayed him by the time the 1st round playoffs started.
Miikka embodied the Finnish cultural phenomenon of "sisu" perfectly, the sheer determination to power through any and all adversity, no matter what.
Paljon onnea, Miikka Kiprusoff!
Kipper is a legend! A lot of little details about him I never knew, thanks for the video 😊
We called him Kipper. One of the best Goalies the Flames ever had. A true Legend and Master of the Butterfly 🦋 ( Lifts glass ) Here's to Kipper. 🔥
As a kid who became a goalie in part because he was 6 in 2004 and watched Kipper carry his hometown flames, thank you for this video
adin hill has a similar story
i wish i saw him play 1 more game in person
Even as a diehard Tampa fan, Kipper got me into hockey as a kid, I loved the netminder position since I first started watching and it was around #34s rise to power, I was in awe of him. Still have my #34 CCM jersey I wear every now and then even though its going on 20 years old. Forever happy I got to watch this man.
The 04 Cup run is why I became a Flames fan. Kipper was my idol when I was younger.
And that’s why I prefer my goalie skates to be ridiculously sharp. So much better grip on the ice, I somehow know exactly where I am in my crease in relation to my net, and let’s not forget the push off between posts. I just forgot to take up smoking to become Kiprusoff 🤣🤣
hall of famer ???
The last Flames game I went to was at 6:00pm on Sunday, March 24th, 2013, against St. Louis. 19,289 in attendance.
Kipper got the first star of the game that night with 36 GS and 2 GA for a .947 SV%. The Flames scored once in each period, the first by Roman Červenka with assists by Dennis Wideman and T.J. Brodie. The second again by Roman Červenka with assists by Jiří Hudler and Mikael Backlund. Jarome Iginla scored the game winner at 12:58 into the final period with an assist by Alex Tanguay.
Seeing Iggy and Kipper not only play in their final years as a Flames, but to see Kipper stand on his head, and to see Iggy score a GWG….nothing will ever top that in my life as a Cowtowner.
Those really were the good old days…
Damn, I didn’t realize how horrible the Flames were at scoring goals that season on the cup run
One of my favorites. The Flames should've been the Stanley Cup Champs, bad bad call.
Kipru was also one of the key factors for a second place finish the 2004 World Cup of Hockey for Finland
Even as a oilers fan man did I ever love him as a goalie. And he was one of my big inspiration growing up.
That was enjoyable good! Thanks, you have new sub!
One of my childhood idols. We finns are a tough breed 🇫🇮
Jesus Christ! This was so detailed that my head is hurting…
I have kiprusofin stick his young days in finnish team.
True professional. Occasionally taking few beers before the game 🤣
