  1. IMHO I don’t think Reilly was not trying to hit him in the face. I think he was going high chest or shoulder and when the Senator ducked it hit his face. However that’s the risk you run when you do that. 5 games is justified no more no less. Great conversation and I always enjoy listening to your guys takes. Love your podcast!!!

  2. Yeah hunter is still on my list .I beleive the Isles could've won the cup in 93 if that pos hunter didn't take out the great turgeon… how cool would've that been if Isles won in 93 n rangers in 94 …

  3. What is the league penalty for taking a slap shot into an empty net? Nothing. What is the league penalty for cross checking an opponent? Depends on the severity of the cross check.

Bump the player or push him, or wait until the next time you play him. Five game suspension is light.

Was the slap shot bush league? Yes.

  4. Good evening boys and you got a treat this afternoon/evening over at the Meadowlands, Marc, Filk, and RC anyway. Another great installment centering around the Bush League play by Ridly Greig and the excessive, brutal response by Morgan Reilly. Both Filk and Dermo's points make sense. Reilly's response was extreme but understandable considering Greig's offense. We've all played or coached at some level, and I could assure you if an opponent pulled that crap in a midnight kegger at Zaloom's in Secaucus it would have been met with a parking lot brawl after the game in the parking lot. I remember when guys like Claude Lemieux and Ron Hextall used to fire pucks in yawning cages after warm-up. I attended a game where Petr Nedved, YES NEDVED, did the same. A bit different than the Greig situation but certainly would fall under the taboo of the unwritten rules. The Reilly incident did remind me of the Hunter hit on Turgeon but there is an interesting detail that many didn't discuss concerning the Dale Hunter hit. Pierre Turgeon was an unpopular player in Canada for the fact that during the "Punch-up in Piestany" during the '87 World Juniors, he was the only Canadian player not to leave the bench during a brawl with the Soviets. Although Team Canada head coach Bert Templeton assured an enraged Canadian public, led by the legendary Donald Stewart Cherry (any surprised?), that all was forgiven, many north of the border would disagree. Maybe as Grapes would have stated, "Dale, a good Canadian lad from Petrolia, Ontario, didn't forget, Eh MacLain!" Back to Reilly, although understandable, his anger anyway, the response was overboard, and he deserves to sit longer than 5 games. Take care guys and thanks for another great show.

  5. The reality is that Ridly was sending a message to all the leafs fans that drove up the road and packed the place. They were jeering the home team all game long, yelling 'go leafs go, etc. He decided to let them know who's house they were in, regardless of the standings, etc. This was an intended dick move. All Sens fans agree, but loved him for it. Morgan Rielly lost him, and was already frustrated. The empty net clapper needed a response. Everyone, everywhere agree on this. Sens fans knew there would be a response and that everyone will gather up over there, punches will be thrown, face wash, etc…all of the above is fine. It makes the game fun and rekindled the Battle of Ontario. It was the way Rielly retaliated, and how leafs fans, AND their coach and team mates, all felt he should have been hit more. If the exact scenario played out in Toronto, and the jerseys were reversed, the leafs fans, players and coach would be calling for a public execution. This is what the issue is. Ridly sent a message to the chirpy fans in THEIR house, and should have been challenged to a fight, body checked, glove mugged, shoved, chirped, whatever…all Sens fans agree. It's the bloodlust attitude over an intentionally disrespectful slapshot that has me scratching my head. That kind of thing ends careers. On a sidenote, Ridly and the DoPS did the leafs a favor…they always play better when Rielly is out of the lineup.

  6. This might be one of the dumbest "etiquette" things I've heard heard of. There's literally no difference between tapping the puck into the empty net and slapping it in. There's a 100% intent to score either way. It's the same in basketball as a guy taking a layup with 2 seconds left or a thunder dunk. If you're shooting, it doesn't matter how it gets there whether it's tap or a slap.

  7. What do you mean "Is Morgan Rielly right" ?
There isn't a player in the league that wouldn't take offense to somebody doing that.
    Give it a fkn rest.
