This move always seemed risky to me but I’m so glad it worked out. Nico must be an amazing person in person, because he’s kind of shockingly inspiring from a distance.

I think by now everyone knows Nico is my favorite player, so no surprise here that I love him.
I am so happy that the Devils chose him in 2017 and wow is it paying off and I don’t even think we’ve seen Nico’s peak yet. Last season was a mere glimpse of the kind of player Nico Hischier will be year in and year out.
I’ll admit I was a little shocked he got the captaincy back in 2021, but it goes down as one of the best decisions made in modern Devils history. He really does put this team on his back even when he doesn’t show up on the scoresheet. I think back to the Rags playoff series where he wasn’t on the scoreline much if at all, but he had crazy numbers against Mika’s line and completely shut down their offense.
It’s clear he has the command and respect and love of his teammates. Every time one of the guys is asked about him they wax poetic about how much Nico means to the team. And he’s on the ice for every type of situation.
And the cherry on top? Every thing I’ve seen and read shows that he’s just a really good, humble person with strength of character.
From “I love to hockey” to “it was FUCKING amazing” that’s my Captain.

It hasnt been all perfect but this was and continues to be the absolute correct choice. Im praying to see a day where he hoists Lord Stanley for us.

I see people saying it seemed a risky move when they named Nico captain. I’ll be hipster about it and say I had zero doubt in my mind he was the one made for it. I jumped up and down in my seat when I saw the announcement. He’s been everything we hoped and more as a leader.
