Frank Seravalli is supposedly claiming that Noah Hanifin wants to sign long-term in Tampa

I have no idea what this website is so it could be a total fabrication, but Seravalli is not a random source, so if Frank Seravalli actually said this on his podcast, there’s a decent bit of credibility to it. I’m not sure how this would work with the salary cap, and given our asset situation, it’s probably not going to work at the deadline either, but if it did work, it would certainly help the situation.

I would love it if it were true (who wouldn’t love a great defensemen forcing his way to their favorite team lmao) but Seravalli is full of shit 99% of the time, and specifically with the Flames he said a bunch of shit this summer that turned out to be just flat out wrong, so I have no faith in him whatsoever.

Edit: Chris Johnston just reported it too though and I do trust him so that’s interesting. I’m still not going to get my hopes up, but it does change things

    With what cap frankie ❗️❗️❗️

  3. Servalli talks a lot of shit, don’t listen to him. Also Hanafin is a LHD and we still need a true RHD to play with Hedman. There’s a few good RHD free agent options this offseason we could afford that would instantly make us better, but guys like Hanafin are too expensive and don’t fill our biggest hole right now.

i have no idea wtf jbb does to pull this move off lol. supposedly he turned down 8 x 7.5 from calgary. idk if he turned them down cause he just doesn’t want to play in calgary, but still…that’s not chump change. the team moved out mcdonagh for this exact reason

either he’s a true rental (in which case money’s no issue cause of serg’s LTIR) or the team is moving on from someone significant if it comes to fruition. not holding my breath tho. no idea how tampa outbids everyone for hanifin.

I imagine there’s no way we trade for him unless it’s Gauthier/Howard and a 1st. The only real route is hope he wants to be here and signs for slightly less with us in the offseason. Then we for sure would need Stamkos to sign cheap or bugger off. We will have the cap but it’ll be tight and won’t really have anything to solve our lack of depth on offence.

Chris Johnston of TSN has also reported the same thing to add to this story

  7. It would be pretty cool in a vacuum but I don’t see how it happens long term realistically

    Mom, can we get Hanifrin?

    We’ve got Hanifrin at home.

    Hanifrin at home: Fleury.

I’d love to have another LHD and go back to the 3 elite LHD that won them B2B Cups with Hedman, McDonagh and Sergy basically always on the ice (Hedman-Sergy-Hanifin would be elite). But as everyone else has mentioned, Hanifin would have to accept league minimum with bonus money paid in Monopoly dollars.

The only other way would be trade Sergy, Cirelli or Cernak as they have high cap hits and no trade protection. That’s a hard no from me on the first two but Cernak for Hanifin is intriguing and if Tanev also gets moved from CGY, Cernak would be a pretty decent immediate replacement who is signed for 8 years. But I’d imagine Calgary would want and probably could get more in return than Cernak plus spare parts/picks.

    Most likely ain’t gonna happen.

If we spread it out like the Mets did Bobby Bonilla? 😉

If he will come here on a reasonable team friendly deal, I think it’s intriguing. Could be a part of the retool that this team needs. I can’t imagine JBB doesn’t see that this team needs a bit of a retool, so I wouldn’t write it off automatically just because of the current cap situation. Just means the team would look a bit different next year.

The question is who would be going to clear the cap room. They’d either have to let Stamkos walk or they’d have to move a member of the core out. Wouldn’t be shocked by anything at this point

No clue how we’d make the money work but if we could do it in free agency rather than a trade that’d be awesome

I’m not sure what magic JBB has left but I would love it if he came even though I think we need a righty.
