NHL Highlights | Blue Jackets vs. Kings – February 20, 2024

Have a day, Quinton Byfield. The 21-year-old forward was unstoppable, finishing with two points on the night including what may go down as the goal of the year as the Los Angeles Kings dismantled the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 on Tuesday.

  1. What a great way for the Kings to start their home stand. A convincing win, with scoring coming from throughout the entire lineup. They've now won 4 straight, 6 of their last 7, and 5 of 6 since the coaching change. A fantastic turnaround for this team.

Dubois and Byfield continue to be the most prominent for the Kings, and I obviously have to mention that Byfield goal. Easily the most impressive goal of his (very) young career, and probably the leading candidate for Goal of the Year.

The Kings youth has been a huge factor for their recent success. Just look at the ages of some of the young Kings: Byfield (21), Laferriere (22), Clarke (21), Turcotte (22, turns 23 in a few days). Dubois is only 25 as well. Although, he already has significant NHL experience, but regardless, he's young, and has been critical for the Kings as of late, which was my main point.

The only negative thing about this game was Arvidsson's early exit. I hope that him leaving the game after that first shift was just a precautionary measure, and not because of a new injury. I'd hate to see him miss more games.

  2. Good call on the goalie interference, if they allowed that goal, every other team would be looking to push the defenseman into the goaltender.

  3. It's still crazy to me that just a year ago people were calling Byfield a bust. "Bustfield" they said. Dude is 21, and has 41 points in 52 games. He's also 6' 5". Like, that's not even fair. The scariest part is that he's improving with each and every game. If he's this good now, imagine how good he'll be in 2-3 years.

  4. PL with Byfield and Laf looks like a great line. They scored 3 goals. Hope Kopi line starts to pick up on the scoring side.
