The Edmonton Oilers MUST DO THIS SOON!

The goalie situation in Edmonton has been, and may very well always be fragile. When it comes down to it, the Oilers have to capitalize on good fortune sooner than later, as an investment down the road.

  1. Imo the goaltending is fine, if there is a need to bring in another goalie bring up Rodrigue. If they are looking at another goalie Mackenzie Blackwood in San Jose is one they should look at. Decent play on a bad team.

  2. You can’t blame Campbell or Skinner for the bad start. Our defensive team play was putrid, and that’s being kind. Goaltending improved after the defence stopped allowing grade A , wide open chances from the slot , 2 on 1’s, and started to cover open spaces. I still think if they play well defensively the goaltending is good enough. Pickard has been steady enough to trust for more starts down the stretch.

  3. The only reason Skinner looks better is because the defense has improved (ty Paul Coffey). Oil will not win the cup with Skinner. Skinner needs a major intervention to improve his play. Unfortunately management has lost their chance to get a goalie that could win a cup for the Oilers. Another wasted year…

  4. Goaltending is still a problem!!!!! Don’t care about the streak. Goaltending is a major issue. They al need to go.

  5. The only way to find out what you have in Pickard before the deadline is to give him some more reps. Ex) I'd give him the start tomorrow. Not only has he been stellar for us since coming up, he also just beat Dallas (I think the highest scoring team in the NHL). On top of that, skinner hasn't been sharp as of late. Possibly needs some rest.

  6. Dolynny TV, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I've been an advocate for Calvin Pickard since his rookie season with Colorado. I enjoyed your comments and the stats being posted. I would like to add that the Colorado Avalanche were the last place team in the NHL when he tended their net. That's why they landed Nathan McKinnon with a first round pick.

His time in Toronto brought the Marlies a championship. After that he gets dumped to Philadelphia who were at that time, you guessed it "Last place in the NHL". A short stop in Arizona followed by Detroit who were in the cellar each year he played there. the one season with only 3 games played included a single game blowout against Pittsburg where he replaced Ned and they lost by a double digit score.

Given a chance he shines. I agree PLAY HIM! Regardless he has earned a contract for next season be it with Edmonton or elsewhere.

  7. Yes Stu is really good, but Oilers can't over play him cause the moment they over play Stu he's going to be burned out when he hits the play offs, play more Pickard in net cause the more experience and more games he plays the better he will get.. cause they over play Stu and Stu plays 70+ games Oilers are done and fucked… cause we will get a Cam Talbot, Oilers are popular of repeating history..

  8. Skinner is a great goalie but is still young and shouldn’t have to take this load. Bring in a 1 B to help him out. If not he’ll be burned out by playoffs

  9. I’m good with the tandem. Let’s all remember even elite goaltenders go thru slumps/down turns

  10. I agree with you 100% on your observation about starting Skinner over Pickard in Arizona. Weird…I couldn't agree more. Would have been a perfect game to give Skinner added rest. I asked the exact same thing yesterday when I saw him between the pipes. The only thing I can think of is this: if you are a GM or a coach in EDM, you have to have a PhD in mis0managing goaltenders. See: Nick Ellis, Al Montoya, Mikko Koskinen, Troy Grosenick, Shane Starrett, & Dylan Wells to name a few. All MISMANAGED by Holland and Co. To manage Oilers you have to have a PhD in mismanaging goaltenders, am I right?

  11. I am in full support of Skinner + Pickard. And of course, Rodrigue is in the wings. Sounds good. More responsibility will bring out even more quality of Picks

  12. Skinner should be first against ALMOST all playoff opponents from here on out, but more and more we should be looking at Pickard to start in games against non playoff opponents.

Skinner needs some rest and Pickard is showing us that he's no slouch.

That being said, I vote for Pickard to start against the Bruins.
    It's crazy but it just… might… work

    Its one of those ideas

  13. I agree, capt. pickard has earned more starts and it would benefit skinner to be rested a bit more. these last 25 or so games left are gonna be real tough as teams are gonna be desperate for wins. they've proven capable and with no real wiggle room with the cap its ride or die with the tandem we got. so might as well support them. yes it was funny he did'nt get the start in arizona, I was thinking the same thing.

  14. Pickard has done alright with the games given him, but everyone here knows that the playoffs are a completely different beast. If this team goes into the playoffs with Skinner/Pickard, they're out.

Let me know how I'm overreacting, and can't see the future now. Skinner is being run into the ground with too many games, has 1 bad season of playoff experience, and Pickard has been a minor league goalie all his career, for a reason.

Goalie is still a high necessity.
