Dubas and the Penguins are in a critical chapter, aiming to make the most of their current core’s remaining years while also planning for the future. With limited cap space and current position outside of the playoff picture, the team should make a splash at the trade deadline. The difficult questions begin with how to invest in players who can contribute both now and in the future, without making star players unhappy.
Jake Guentzel’s situation is particularly interesting in this context. Despite rumors and speculation about his future with the team, trading Guentzel may not align with the team’s goals of strengthening their lineup for a playoff push and beyond. Guentzel is a stud who’s presence in the lineup is crucial for the Penguins’ success. The focus is on adding talent that can help the team win now without sacrificing its future, and dealing a player of Guentzel’s just might not be the play as discussed by Anthony and Eric.

the pens are likely going to miss the playoffs and hes a ufa that will probably want to play for a contending team. the penguins just arent good enough and will only get worse you cant blame dubas for not wanting to get nothing out of him. overall a shitty situation for dubas and pens fans unless guentzel stays
Guentzel while working great with Crosby is not going to re sign here, he will be offered greater deals from better teams.
