Interesting article

https://nypost.com/2024/02/21/sports/islanders-focused-on-fixing-costly-late-game-issues-for-playoff-push/

to me it seems like this sub is divided into two camps with some overlap. Lack of talent v bad coaching/management and some people who, pre Roy, think it’s Combo of the 2.

This article makes the interesting argument that the talent is there with the current cup contender teams (i.e. amount of time without leads in games is very low like among the top teams), save late game collapses (obviously that changes whole ballgame).

Interested to see if anyone agrees w this based on this stat. Question is – based on this stat, do the Isles, in your view, actually have the talent to win a cup as to the roster is currently?

  2. There’s nothing like playoff hockey, and I wanna watch the isles. Idgaf how many playoff games they play, I just wanna watch.

I’m just gona say this. On the other side of the river you have players of a sports team that want to run the show and play GM. Management has no idea how to tell the young kids to know their roles and shut their mouths.

Say what you will about Lou, there’s no drama or turmoil in Islander country aside from underperforming, overpaid stars. Take what this year is with a grain of salt. For all the old fans, we’ve seen the darkness. It could be way way worse.

The team is and has been underperforming. They have been their own worst enemy all season.

I think a lot of us feel that unforced errors and consistent effort (along with a perplexingly abysmal PK) are the biggest problems which should be fixable.

We all hoped the coach change and allstar brake would be the hard reset they seemed to so desperately need. Unfortunately the same inability to finish games and play consistently is there.

I want to believe they can turn the corner…and I think they can (they have the talent), but time is running out and I now think it’s more likely they won’t be able to do it – there is just something off they cannot shake.

They were never going to be a real cup contender but they should be in the pkayoffs – and still could – but the constant pissing away of points and opportunities is killing them and unless they get it together by like next week it’s likely over.

The Isles can hang with the big guns…for a game. The inconsistency is the issue, and as we can see it’s just as much on the players as it is on the staff. I love them, but this roster ain’t it. Trotz got the best of them and that’s that.

The Post is such a Rags rag I have zero time for whatever shit they’re peddling. Finding a positive Isles article is like finding a gold bar in a haystack. Even this one is centered around how the Isles flounder in the 3rd period. F the Post.

That is all. Off my soapbox. Carry on. As you were.

Management and ownership are not going to pull the plug and rebuild. We have lots and lots of talent without consistency. We have some pieces to the puzzle and we should try with the puzzle pieces we have rather than hope and pray that a potential fire sale will turn things around in the long run. It is more likely we can figure something out with tweaks compared to the rebuild. The only thing worse than thing than he a bubble playoff team is a team like the Sens and Sabres who were supposed to take the league by storm three years ago

We have a very elite goalie currently as well as an elite forward, both of whom are over 25. If we get lucky in draft we can get an Ilya or Barzal, so why don’t we run with the actual player we have rather than a gamble on a potential player
