Is Shayne Gostisbehere’s 5v5 play concerning? | Can Justin Holl reestablish himself?

Shayne Ghostisbehere has been a powerplay specialist. But at 5v5, he has been ineffective and regulated to the 3rd pairing. Is that concerning? Meanwhile, Justin Holl has gone from playing 80 games at 20 minutes a night with the Leafs a night, to being a healthy scratch in Detroit. Can he reestablish himself? Previewing the Colorado Avalanche. #lgrw

  1. as far as the top line talked about last show, i'll tell you right now – Lalonde said he's keeping the lines the same vs Colorado. he's shown he cannot – literally cannot – fix things that are broken unless the team loses, sometimes multiple games in a row. he's that incompetent.

if he runs that Kane Larkin Rasmussen line that gets dominated every single shift out there in Kane's legacy game returning to Chicago to face Bedard, there will be nothing he or the Wings can ever do to make that up to Kane. it would be a permanently alienating relationship souring move.

  2. Ghost has been concerning to me all around. I don't notice much from him. But maybe he is doing things I don't notice.🤔 and I don't care what anyone says…u cannot just contribute to the power play and think u are contributing….it's not enough. Brian and scotty are way to easy on these guys

  3. Unless they get a decent dman who can play pp and is more responsible defensively, why would we want to trade any of our defenseman, aside from Holl who they'll get nothing for in the midst of a playoff push? This seems like a silly argument when ghost is playing exactly as they should have expected him to play, to expect him to be good defensively is delusional, he wasn't brought here for that, he is who he is.

  4. All the pick ups this past off-season increases the amount of chances these guys won't be as good as we thought. Add to a trade, eat some of the salary. We can try to replace with other nhlers but unless it is a Hanifin chances aren't any better, rolling the dice. Ghost, Petrey, and Holl are dropping off defensively as the season goes on. They have been asked all season long to defend better, and just don't seem capable to do so. Hope they are not on the ice for any length of time. 🏒

  5. I think Holl will be fine, his first season with the Red Wings is same as Bens. Ghost could be a trade ship for an upgrade at the deadline! Him, Berggs, and picks!

  6. Ghost is already traded in my opinion. Not that he's been terrible, but if we're supposed to be a defensive team, he doesn't seem to fit and a decent return could be gotten for him.

  7. When I was younger, maybe junior high, I got roped into watching my 3 month old niece while my sister got her hair done. So when there i am, sitting in the waiting area of a hair salon with my niece and who walks in but Brian Fisher.
I was nervous as fuck, and just kept looking at him, as he read a magazine and waited, but didn't know what to say. Pretty soon though my niece started crying, and I'm trying to quiet her down because I didn't want her to bother Brian, but she wouldn't stop. Pretty soon he gets up and walks over. He started running his hands through her hair and asking what was wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry or something. So, Brian put down his magazine, picked up my niece and lifted his shirt. He breast fed her right there in the middle of a hair salon. Chill guy, really nice about it.

  8. For what he gives us all around hes not worth 4+mill a year. Id rather spend that on gettingba 200 ft defenceman

  9. I doubt he gets moved. He still has 30 points. Def has always been an issue with him. Yzerman knew this when he brought him over

  10. 🎉Debrincat not a surprise. Watched a lot of his games over the years. Long goalless droughts and they were tired of him in Ottawa. Big bust for Detroit and knew this would happen

  11. Justin Holl was signed to the team last summer because the team (Yzerman) finally realized they are devoid of right handed defensemen. This is a result of the drafting staff failure to draft right handed defenseman prospects over multiple years. What Holl, who was described and a large physical defensemen, needs to due to salvage his year is play physically and maybe even drop the gloves. I think when DeBrincat dropped the gloves (twice) it demonstrate his commitment to the team. Don't need Holl to win the fight just show up. This will get him more ice time particularly against a big team like Florida and Ottawa.

  12. I’d give up a third round pick to get rid of Holl, at half retained to Chicago or the Sharks. He doesn’t play and is a liability. I want as much of his cap off the books before we become cap strapped and have to give up more to get out of a desperate situation

  13. This Avalanche game does scare me, playing a cup contender after having a few days off. I can see the Wings coming out pretty flat. Would love to see them come out with some hard forechecking though.

  14. All.tgis analysis concern about 5 on 5 weakness dnd down in Gremand Rapids sits Edvinsson who has far more upside than Holl ever will and would be just as good or better rhan Gostisbehere

  15. Thanks for talking about Ghost today. Anytime you discuss a lack of production from a player, they then produce immediately after. I've had Ghost on my fantasy team for months and the Bear has been in hibernation… Hopefully he wakes up tonight against the Avs, baby! LGRW!!!

  16. On DeBrincat – we don't need him to be a 40-50 goal scorer and this is a GOOD thing. Look at Toronto, who has the best goal scorer. Almost all their goals come from Matthews, Nylander and Marner. The Red Wings distribute their goal scoring amongst 13-15 players and the majority have 10+ goals. Those kind of stats are not glamorous (like a 50 goal scorer) but it is much harder to defend and any coach would favor it. I think DeBrincat is performing well and well enough.

On Gostisbehere – it's not ideal 5v5 but he's performing the function that he is there for. If it was out of balance they would not be playing him.
