In December Detroit was missing larkin, compher, Kostin, and Perron making the month very tough to win consistently which is why it was so disastrous. Also unlike Ottawa and Buffalo, Detroit is getting really solid goal tending in Alex Lyon and James Reimer had improved his play recently

The Red Wing depth has been a big factor I believe after Kane got his 10th goal they have 12 guys with 10 plus goals.
