My mom with Pat Burns and the Stanley Cup, the night of the 2003 win at a bar in East Orange.

A guy on my dad’s beer league team had a cousin who owned a bar in East orange that the Devils would frequent after games. He’d even keep the bar open late for them for away games. So they chose to celebrate their win at that bar. I was young at the time, 13 years old.

My parents were watching three boys my and my brothers age for another hockey family at the time to give them a much needed vacation and us an awesome sleepover weekend. my dad got the call to get to the bar as soon as possible. Knowing we couldn’t be trusted alone, he took one for the team and stayed back with us 5 rascals and sent my mom and her brother to go celebrate with the newly minted Stanley cup champions, and gave my mom the experience of a lifetime. It was a private party, just close friends and family of the bar owners and the New Jersey devils in the bar, going absolutely apeshit. She even drank out of the cup and spilled it all down the front of her (she’s 5’1 on a good day) lol!

My uncle is a rangers fan (🤮🤮🤮) and was reading the cup, looking for the 1994 band, and John Madden realized what he was doing and drunkenly shouted “OH SHIT! WE’VE GOT A RANGERS FAN HERE EVERYONE!!” And blew up his spot lol. He tried to claim he was a neutral hockey fan, but everyone knew his shame lol. They didn’t give him too hard of a time though and even let him drink out of the cup.

All in all, amazing night for them, and one of the fondest family memories we have.

LGD!!! Let’s bring it back home!! I want to make it to the bar this time.

Awesome story!!! What bar ? They used to all come in to a local bar in West Orange after games and it was always wild sitting there listening to some crazy stories

Great story, must have been a hell of a night. Funny to think how some other sports teams will celebrate a championship win at some high-end club, and this team did it at the bar that supported them all the way. Pretty cool

I’m still bitter about this cup because my dad promised to take me to the cup finals game 7 if they made it and the day of the game decided he was taking my little sister who didn’t even like sports instead. I acknowledge that we’ve won three cups but still pretend this one didn’t happen.
