Episode 80: Is Kirby Dach YOUR 2nd Line Center?

In this episode, we discuss…

We debate whether we have seen enough from Kirby Dach to cement him as the Habs 2nd line center for next year or should Kent Hughes continue to search the market for another center? Since Dach is there, and the Habs are loaded with defensive prospects, have their priorities and focus changed to another position i.e. RW?
When Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton look at their “whiteboard”, do they have Suzuki, Caufield, and Slafkovsky penciled in as the automatic 1st line for next year or should they look to continue to improve the 1st line?

For whatever reason there is a contingent of the Montreal Canadiens fanbase that wants Kent Hughes to trade Mike Matheson ASAP. Why is that? Mike Matheson has been good for the Canadiens and is a true professional. Why are some fans so adamant on moving Mike Matheson?

  1. They missed the boat last year by finishing too high. We really needed a top 3 pick in one of the best drafts of the decade. It might be the difference between being a good playoff team in 3-5yrs, and being an Elite team.
I still think its too early to rush things. Hopefully this draft we can pick up an Elite forward who will be able to contribute in 3-4yrs. We need to assess where we are at next season with Dach back at Center, and figure out where we need to fill needs, then use assets to acquire them.
As for Matheson i would be fine with trading him as long as we get good value in return (perhaps similar value offensive prospect a bit younger)? Im all for packaging a few assets to get 1 higher level asset in return, even if its a bt of a risk with high upside.
At this point we have plenty of assets to take risks, but i would not give up our #1 pick this year especially if its bottom 6.

Which one of these guys would you trade to get you that superstar top 6 forward that we need? Who's staying and who's going??? I don't even think the Habs know lol

  3. No, you have to always look for upgrades to create internal competition. It's not a priority, but the situation came up to get a top 1C that pushed Suzuki to 2C, it's not a priority but it would improve the team, you should do it. The priority right now is a top 6 winger and goalie. Also we had a Toffoli and we shouldn't have traded him.
