Some fans want to swap Casey out for a defensively responsible 3rd line center like Boone Jenner. The problem with that thinking is that Casey has better defensive impacts than most 3cs you could reasonably expect to find and he’s better offensively than they are too and he’s been doing it while playing 1C minutes. So if you swap Casey for Jenner not only do you make the team worse defensively, but you’ve made them worse offensively as well as you’ve subbed out the Sabres’ most used forward for a significantly weaker player. 2. Every time I see this plot with a giant GF/60 and a tiny xGF/60 and a below average CF/60 I don’t think “sign this man” I think run away from an unsustainable bag year

I think to keep Casey we all (Adams, Granato, fans) would have to stop thinking of him as 3C. He’s going to get paid more than a 3C, he has more TOI than a 3C, he is arguably more versatile than a lot of 3Cs. So are Casey and Cozens middle 6 centers? Do we have a bunch of interchangeable parts (Greenway-Mittelstadt-Cozens was the second line last night)? What’s Mittelstadt’s role, Cozens’ role, Krebs role? Now is the time to decide.

I was definitely in the trade Casey camp but I now lean toward keeping him—as long as we get some real energy guys for the fourth line.

At this point he’s more of a 1C ( on the Sabres ) than TT and DC…that’s not to say he’d be a 1C on a playoff team

I don’t think most people *want* to trade him. I think most of us are in the boat of *where does he fit in*.

He’s a second line center. We already have one of those. What do we do then?
