The Toronto Maple Leafs came back off an epic all-star weekend in Toronto on a high. Running into game 48 with a 3 game win streak, the Leafs were feeling like things were turning around. A sluggish opening 40 minutes resulted in the Leafs being down 2-1 heading into the 3rd. John Tavares tied it up with less than 5 to go, but the curse of the ex-Leaf struck again. Pierre Engvall scored with just over two minutes to go to win it for the New York Islanders. Ryan May was chatting with Maple Leafs Fans in Maple Leafs Square after the loss.
Mitch Marner scored, with assists from Auston Matthews and John Tavares. The other Leafs goal was scored by JT with assists from William Nylander and Morgan Rielly. Ilya Samsonov allowed 3 goals on 29 shots for an .897 save percentage.
