We suspect the Detroit Red Wings are looking for a forward, but don’t be surprised to see them try to pick up a defenceman with bite. The Wings may have a lot of blueliners but they don’t have anyone “smelly” (hard to play against).

  1. Steve is about to cut off the waterline to the showers isn’t he

Idk why we need a forward we are rolling! Maybe more depth and injury insurance for playoffs I guess?

    Just bring up Bergers

  3. silvio_dante

Isn’t that supposed to be Chiarot? We really don’t need to add another mediocre d-man. Either add someone top tier like Hanifin (although with him being a LHD it’s a weird fit) or Andersson or just focus elsewhere.

I was going to post in the daily thread about this, but this’ll do too.

I can almost see a Guentzel trade (sign and trade even?) Especially with Berggren likely moving

Maybe Berggren, Fabbri and a pick? Trading Fabbri would free up a spot for Guentzel – who’s a proven playoff winger.

I don’t see a need for any forwards, as long as no one gets injured.

For defense, we could try to move Holl out and call up Edvinsson, then have Petry as our 7th D, that would be a decent improvement without costing much (example: offer Holl and a 4th rd pick for “future considerations” to Arizona).

We need high end talent. That’s literally it. This team as constructed operates best by out depthing other teams. Top 6 needs some size & scoring with high end talent. Defense needs another top 4 quality guy and to clear out the log jam. Ideally we need someone else to pair with Seider. Would love to see Walman with Ed as pair 2. Waller is punching above his weight on the first pair. Ghost and Chariot as 3rd. Clear out everyone else.

If we can somehow get xhekaj from Montreal I’d be stoked

  8. Seider pretty much slams in the back every single guy who gets below the goal line. And they usually seem surprised at his strength and fall. That seems “smelly” and difficult to play against to me. Now other than him yes. Although Walman has been a block shot beast lately.

  9. typemeanewasshole

Why put “smelly” if you’re gonna clarify what you mean in brackets

  10. MozzerellaStix

There’s a couple people I work with they may be interested in this case 🥴

Why not ship one of our current defenders and give Simon some minutes.

He has done well in the ahl and looked great in the short samples of games in the nhl.

I just don’t see them chasing high end guys is all. One team I’d keep and eye on is NJ if they really drop out of it then maybe a guy like toffoli would make a lot of sense for the middle 6 for us.

Seider and Chairot are hard to play against. I’d love Hanafin if we’re looking at a dman – but I really hope the deal includes someone heading out. We need room for Edvinsson next year. Maatta could go. Petry and Holl don’t feel movable. Gost is another movable piece, and I feel like he’s been one of our worst blue liners for the past few months after a strong start. We COULD move Chairot with the way he’s been playing, but I’m not sure we should. We might as well be moving Johansson and Wallinder as well, considering there’s no real chance for them to have room regardless of readiness.

Edvinsson/Hanafin/Walman is a very strong left side for the next few years in any order.

  14. Oooohhhh Fuck We’re going to the Play-offs! Omg omg! FUCK YES!!! FUCK YES!!!!!

Would like a defenseman in that mold yeah. Lalonde puts a lot on Mo. And don’t get me wrong, Mo does a great job. But I think taking some of the pressure off of him in that end would make his offense shine even brighter too.

  16. I have a feeling that Y was the one calling about Arber Xhekaj a month or so ago.

  17. ReptarTheBrave

In terms of a forward what we need imo is something the NHL seems to be lacking these days. A highly talented power forward. A guy who’s minimum 6’2” 220lbs, strong as a mf, will fight, actually drills people, and can play offensively at the same level as someone like Raymond. Preferably first line but second line minimum. I’m thinking someone like Tkachuk (either one), prime Ovechkin, Kreider, prime Perry, or even Evander Kane.

If we aren’t going to have that kind of strength in the first or second forward line then it needs to come from defense. Chiarot and Seider are currently the only large/strong defenseman we have. At least who will actually hit and defend players. Someone like Zadorov on the back end would be nice to have. Either way this team is going to get pummeled in the playoffs physically with our current roster

“I heard they need a forward, or a defenseman, or a goalie. I don’t know what he is gonna do.”

  19. I would love this team to get a little nastier. Look at the 90’s cup teams. Skill and toughness. McCarty, LaPointe, Shanny, Kocur.

We had 2 physical players with skill like that right now, I think this team is really hard to beat.

  20. Problemwoodchuck

I’d rather just let Mo and Chiarot mix it up more often. The Boughner/Lalonde defensive system seems so positional that in a way it takes away chances for players with that physical style of game.

  21. Lauzon would be a nice fit at a very reasonable price/cap hit

I think any 3 of Tanev, Hanifin or Lauzon would be great. I have a sneaking suspicion that it’ll be a Gudbranson type (yikes)

  22. I thought we already had too many forwards but alright.

  23. Marek vs Kaplan: are the Wings buying or selling on defense? Interesting. I hope they’re selling, just so they can get Edvinsson in.

  24. FragmentEx

I wish Philly was tanking because I still want Konecny

  25. wiffleyoshi17

Anyone real substance to this rumor? Don’t feel like the wings would do anything to a) jeopardize our future for a playoff run this year or b) disrupt the existing chemistry on the team

  26. SeiderFiveThree

Love to hear it. We’ve needed that kind of defenseman for a long time

  27. Shotokanguy

Such nonsense. We have 13 forwards as is, and Berggren should be here. We don’t need another. And we have at least 2 “hard to play against” D in Seider and Chiarot. Walman can be pretty physical too, if that’s what “hard to play against” means.

  28. PineapplePhil

I’d rather Steve trade some dead weight on the blue line to get Edvinsson up full time. We don’t need another fricken 6/7 defenseman lmao
