>Despite icing a competitive team led by star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, the Jets have the second-lowest average attendance at 13,098. Only the Arizona Coyotes, who are temporarily playing at 4,600-seat Mullett Arena in Tempe, draw fewer fans.
According to the article by The Athletic, Winnipeg’s season-ticket base has decreased 27 per cent in three years from approximately 13,000 to just under 9,500.

I can see them moving them instead of expanding
NZafe
*This* may be one of the scariest things to hear as a fan.
You compare this to the A’s in baseball, and everyone points fingers at the owner for not fielding a competitive team. But what do you do when you have one of the best teams in the sport, and still no one wants to come watch games?
PhilyJ
Why are winnipegians not going to the games? They’re an electric team.
finnish-flash13
There avg attendance is over 13000 rn. This is the corporate world trying to milk the blue collar.
Striking_Economy5049
He’s moving the team.
sherrybobbinsbort
I don’t want to see this but could you imagine if the jets moved to toronto for the 2nd team. They already hate toronto i couldn’t imagine what it would be like.
Repeat I like the jets and wish for another team in Quebec having said that though the 7m people around gta could easily support a team.
sherrybobbinsbort
Meanwhile arizona can’t sell out 5000 seat arena unless a popular team is visiting and brings in the fans.
Canadian_mk11
Chairman raises prices in a tough economy and then asks “where have all the fans gone”?
No-Examination-5833
When you look at how well the team is doing, you would have to be concerned with not selling tickets. Isn’t this why Minnesota moved to Dallas? Maybe the Winnipeg Jets will become the Houston Aeros.

In a tough economy, raising prices puts people out of your arena. That’s on you big dog. Lower prices and get more fans.
Onedayimhere
Winnipeg fans have been unbearable this last week.
Onedayimhere
If living in Canada is so expensive that going to the games are not being prioritized, why are so many Winnipeg fans crying about the possibility of them being moved?
Either support the team, or let them go. Weirdo winnipegians downvoting in mass over something that is obvious.
Sapzz93
Not a jets fan but as someone who has to go to MSG for home games – when the cost to go to a game basically costs half a paycheck after all is said and done between the tickets, food and drinks, I’d rather just stay home on my warm comfy couch with easy access to a line free bathroom and all the cheap(er) food and drinks I bought from the store
I imagine this is same for Jets fans now. Owner just trying to empty everyone’s pockets and is now facing the consequences.

Funny reading a story where a team is 85% full in the arena, the same numbers roughly as Columbus, Calgary, Buffalo, Anaheim and San Jose, and the NHL is ‘worried’ about only Winnipeg.
Skankezy
So what the doubters are saying there are less hockey fans in Winnipeg than Miami, Houston or Phoenix? Please come to your senses. Excluding Houston, the three examples don’t sell out games unless there’s give aways. I don’t think Winnipeg has to do this in a 13,000 seat arena. So how does Anaheim, LA , Miami survive in todays limited hockey market? Are you telling me there’s far more hockey fans in these cities? Are you telling me there’s less competition for the average persons entertainment dollar than Winnipeg? Clearly, the CEO wants to win and go deep in a smaller market. Attracting or retaining big free agents by enhancing your payroll by increasing capacity is an easy way to do that. Comparing Winnipeg with Phoenix at the bottom of the pile is clearly irrelevant to the suggestion they both are on the precipice of collapse. They both are forever reliant on the capital the Leafs generate just to have competition. The CEO clearly needs a present day lesson in business acumen.
PissJugRay
I don’t think this is on the fans. Winnipeg is different than other NHL markets due to its size being a fair bit smaller and general demographics compared to bigger cities. This is on the corporate/busines community in Winnipeg and TNSE to get them on board with season tickets. TNSE basically owns half of downtown with True North Square and I think they now own Portage Place as well.
This isn’t a blue collar fan problem. It’s a corporate business problem.
riko77can
I remember them saying when the Jets returned to Winnipeg how important it was to maintain the season ticket numbers to stay viable in a Canadian small market. Now that the fans are revolting I guarantee you the next time the Jets leave Winnipeg it will be permanent.
No_Dig1353
Threatening fans that you’ll leave if they don’t give you money works very well, just ask Sens fans
Fantastic_Slide_8994
Get the net, Chipman! Read the room and lower your damn prices! Oh, you’d rather have empty seats then actually make tickets affordable? It’s the ’20s man! We’re all broke!
hondaboi6969
The fans who bought up all the season tickets 14 years ago are getting older, my wife’s parents had season tickets for 13 years but now travel and spend most of the winter down south (as do a lot of ticket holders who can afford it) Doesn’t make sense for them to keep their tickets. So it’s now on my generation to fill that gap, problem is most 30 somethings are trying to save money to buy a house never mind spending $1000’s a year on season tickets. I love the jets but can’t justify spending that amount of money regardless if it means them leaving. True North is disconnected from their fan base and not to mention downtown is a fucking shit hole and i avoid going there as much as possible.
DrewLockIsTheAnswer1
That’s ok, Trudeau is slapping on a thicker carbon tax. That’ll help Canadians afford more tickets.
scandrews187
Sucks to be the Jets chairman.
Knights_When
Seems like they are trying to blame the fans when it should be on the org to get people in the building.

Jets are on fire!! They’ll go to some southern USA city and win the cup! Just like the nordiques did

I’ve been going through recent Jets home games on YouTube and I don’t see an issue at all. I don’t get it.
Zephyr0us
they better get every chance Arizona is getting to find a solution. the Jets are an electric team and the last thing we need is less teams in Canada
bertrafdord89
Have some games on a weekend. Every game this month is out of Town or on a Tuesday
Capital_Lock_8874
Even though they sold out for 10 seasons but now post pandemic and inflation are the biggest reasons for tickets 🎟️ and everything in general too be expensive now. But the big corporates need to step up their game and help out a lot too.The Jets fans alone are just not enough! There’s nothing wrong with the Canada life Centre because it matches their market, but having low attendance really is concerning.
jmac1915
Correction: Current state of Jets, a team presumably worth 8X what was paid for it, is not making the rate of return per year that owner feels it should be.

We are in a economic down turn, some would say a recession. 🫣🤫🫢
Any company can make money while the economy is booming.
Its when the down turns come that you have to be creative.
Sometimes you just have to cut costs and hope you make your margins in the aggregate of mass sales. 🤫🤫
Spiritual_Holiday511
Biggest issue in my opinion is that parking around the arena went up from $10 to $25 which is insane. In a city where a large chunk of the fan base needs to drive in from rural areas, that’s an extra $25 on top of the 4th highest average ticket price in Canada. Every team above them has far superior public transit and depends far less on fans travelling from outside of the city. Driving in Winnipeg winters already sucks, but the parking prices make it hard to justify.
DrSeuss19
I guess Houston may have a team soon? Or KC?
Old_Canuck
Anyone can run the Yankees.
Its the fellow who runs the Blue Jays or A’s who just made the World Series that you gotta keep your eyes👀 on.
