Oilers Weekend Recap & Discussion

Hey Guys, Austin here and welcome to today’s video where I’ll be talking about the Oilers back to back losses to the Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames this weekend. For those of you maybe new to the channel and for returning viewers, normally I do what’s called a “day after” episode where I talk about the previous Oilers game the day after and they’re usually very formal with a variety of topics to talk about and discuss that are not part of my regular “post-game” recaps or debriefs as I like to call them. In today’s video I decided to just combine the day after episodes I normally would have made into one condensed weekend recap video for you! #oilers #nhl

  1. Do you think bringing in Olivier Rodrigue would be worth bringing up and given an opportunity to backup Skinner? The other worry I have is Pickard won’t clear waivers if he’s sent down because he hasn’t had a bad year and the goaltending has been poor throughout the NHL.

  2. They should play Pickard more. He hasn't played a bad game yet. Some not great games, but no bad ones.

  3. I'm sick of Pizza Delivery Guy running this team this team seems to have no team identity, poor roster construction. I don't see the point of drafting & picking up guys who have size & smooth swift skating if they aren't going to use it & to their advantage. Wth? Is this the Harlem Globetrotters on ice or the ice capades? Damn it, this isnt the No Hit League yet😢 . Just like Warren Zevon sang Hit Somebody.
The Captain does it & leads by example & few follow except maybe Holloway & Janmark last night, it was nice to see Janmark was rewarded for going the extra mile. RNH has been missing. He stands around like our defense does & does not actively move his feet to actively pressure other teams puck carriers. This allowing other teams time & space to set up plays is killing us imo. So is the lack of push back by some players. RNH wth? you let that goon Jonathon Huberdeau push you around ? Where is the guy that fought Sean Monaghan & Justin Holl. Hey RNH look at where Sam Gagner is at, that is where your career is trajectory is headed to fast.😢 This teams management needs to send a message to some players by letting them ride the pine more & further down the lineup & even as healthy scratches where they can stand in the stands all they want to watch the games. Need a few call ups from the minors with guys hungry for a opportunity. Ramp up the internal competition. Im scared that Pizza Delivery Guy will make a further hot mess of this so loaded product by trading away Holloway & multiple draft picks & prospects for some magic temporary beans. 😢

  4. I love skinner so I will continue to defend him but hes looked poor since the Vegas game. I always say that goalies are the most unpredictable thing in hockey and skinner is a perfect example of that. In his defence he was brought in last year to be a young backup behind jack Campbell and he was supposed to develop into a starter but due to unforeseen circumstances hes been put into a position he shouldn't have to be in. I think that getting a 1B goalie is a necessity at the deadline but the problem is there's not a lot of options that we wouldn't have to give up a lot for. There are more important changes to be made; RD and RW and Depth. Great video Austin.

  5. Maybe they're tired/sick? I know that's not an excuse but if you play perfect hockey and string together 16 in a row just to get into the playoffs but not anywhere near the division lead or even home ice advantage, the fatigue may have set in mentally. Physically, the RSV or flu or whatever virus is hitting the city of Edmonton is real. Or maybe the other teams found a good strat to play us while we were on break?? I think either way, if this team truly wants the smoke, they'll figure it out and adjust.

  6. Agree re: line consistency. Put the lines back as they were in the streak. Leave them so the players can develop chemistry.

  7. 100% Austin since the all-star break, the team has just been lask luster and are reverting back the dreaded start that they had at the beginning of the season.

Skinner 100% needs help both with a reliable backup and the defense i front of him. We'll see what happens at the trade deadline coming up and what the oilers are willing to give up to get those pieces

Connor Brown needs to be benched to only have 4 points & zero goals in 46 games, and making 4 million with bonuses is frankly unacceptable at this point.
Gagner and Holloway should be getting more ice time.

Hopefully, they can get out of this funk and push towards the playoffs

  8. Totally agree with you. Line changes is frustrating. New here. Enjoy listening to you. Cheering for my Oilers from Vancouver. Thank you for breaking every thing down. Helpful.
