Marek I disagree with your Ottawa take about them playing well and it's not even March or April..
I think it has more to do with the fact that they've been out of the playoff picture for a while now. It's now the 3rd straight year where the Sens look good when they are out of contention. Once the pressure is off they start performing. They need to figure out how to win when it matters and especially to have a strong start to a season which feels like forever ago.

Obviously, NJD, need a G to compliment a very good roster. But obtaining Markstrom, Saros, or any other top G is not going to get them into the EC Finals. Losing Hamilton & Graves hurt more than I hear mentioned by any of the legion of talking heads. Geaux NYR.

The Sens are a young team, still trying to win. Going on 7 straight years of no-playoffs barring a miracle. If they can't keep Chychrun on board, but end up getting an older EK65 with injury concerns instead, how exactly does that make sense? They can bring back Karlsson on a cheap 1-year deal when his contract ends and the team is in a much better place to win every night. Doing an EK65 trade tomorrow won't make things better right away. And if young pieces are sacrificed, it might even set Ottawa back. Setbacks are the last thing that this team can afford.
Yzerman did also tell fans, both last and this year, not to expect playoffs. As a Wings fan, I'm firmly in that camp. If we do make it, that's amazing, but I don't expect it.

Guentzel to the Wings would make a lot of sense. The Wings have the assets to make it work for Pittsburg and Guentzel would certainly help the Wings.
