We also break down some familiar problems and some areas the Isles made progress in during this game.

And the Isles have reportedly gotten some calls regarding the possible availability of Brock Nelson at the NHL Trade Deadline. But will Lou Lamoriello make such a big trade to blow up this team? Should he?

  1. Whatever I say I'm just repeating myself, but this team lol is just remarkably consistently inconsistent…..maybe the isles can end up w 2 80 pt scorers

  2. I'll take the 2 points, but the Stars were playing their 5th game in 8 days. Not going to get too excited.

  3. Draft positioning ruiner. I'm not even gonna discuss what is basically a no no win that means nothing facing stars back-up goalie not Ottinger. And I just watched a discussion on isles that brought up some good points.
    1. isles last 3 seasons are 20th in pts. and have 102 wins in 221 games. Isles don't even win half their games. Bettman loser pts. inflate their pt. total. Sens have more regulation wins. 26th in gf-isles don't score enough. And for a team built on d end 24th ga. Even with stellar goaltending isles don't win enough with it.
    2. The trade 29 chatter is out there. Point made-a team trading for 29 this tdl would give team like say b's or av's who are looking for c help two runs with 29 still on a good deal. 29 is not an elite player who can lift isles but he is a fine top sixer who would fit in well on a true contender. Louzer should move 29 NOW-when gm's are hungry and desperate. Also 15 with 12 playoff goals should be moved. A contender may bite and give louzer a 3rd or 4th. Isles are not improving. And what worked for louzer 20 years ago in nj don't work today.
Roy is a good coach, can coach 'youth' as his two memorial cup titles attest to that. The key word 'youth'. No 'youth' on horizon for isles. When roy got to av's he had a rookie mack and young rantanan there to work with. Fast, skilled team. And typical isles can't win by losing and will hurt their draft status along the way needing to get into top 10 plus additional first a 29 could bring to start the re-tooling before it gets really ugly next season.
Isles are an average mediocre team. Louzer needs to realize his running it back every season don't work and make the needed changes. If not isles need to find someone that will make the needed tough changes. And gf 2.8 still can't avg. 3.0 per game per louzer norm.

  4. 100% on point, I don’t have anything to add other than a great show, thanks Gil… 🇺🇸🇮🇱✡️✝️🤘

  5. Im at a point now where Im getting pissed off when the Isles win. Every time they do, I can hear Louzer in my head saying " See? I told you"

  6. Islanders are roughly 4 points from the 8th and final playoff spot with 24 games left….The way this team has played (to still be in contention) makes me believe the standard of play this season has been lowered throughout the league……. And i still hope for wholesale roster change for the Islanders…….Think future Lou!…Please!.

  7. I lived in Montreal for 5 years before moving to Paris. When I was living in Montreal the Hockey Press kept saying Sorkin did not want to play with a loser team in NHL hence why he did not want to sign with islanders

If the islanders do a rebuild they need to sit down with Sorokin and have a frank and honest discussion with him and show him the road map to contend again and get his buy in

Otherwise the worst scenario is in the midst of a rebuild and you have Sorokin saying I want out

  8. After the very tough defeats it was really nice with something uplifting. We have to keep going and improve. We desperately need a win streak. It feels like it is the same players trying to carry us on their back.

  9. Unnecessary win but it's happened….let's believers belive but we NOT going to make it sooner we realized better for as….Nelson on first line is brilliant idea hope he got hot in this next few games so that we can got higher price in trade ….LG some new Islanders. ❤

  10. The new first line is very intriguing hopefully the rest of the lines fall into place. At this point it can’t hurt. Damn that PK is atrocious. I am trying to understand it from a player perspective. They were great two seasons ago so are they that ingrained into lamberts pk setup and have to readjust? I have a hard time believing that because these are vets, but I could be wrong. I’m honestly looking forward to seeing what is done this offseason.

  11. The one consistent thing regarding the islanders is locked in islanders!!! Thanks Gil for your hard work putting these together! Watch every morning with a cup of tea.

  12. Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? I saw the highlights on ESPN, and they actually looked pretty good, and Bo Horvath won it in OT, again, and in Dallas, too. Even though The Islanders won, I feel bad for the kid onThe ⭐, who not only scored a goal, but he did on his 21st birthday, but cest la gare. Now back on track, this was one they needed, hopefully, they can keep 👆 the good work. Matt Barzal made the goal happened. When he's on his game, he puts me in mind of Trots. The Islanders stayed out of the penalty 🗃 for most of the night, even though it did cost them a goal. Their PP still needs work, LOTS OF WORK. Their defense is getting better they're trying their Shots on Goal down. I'm convinced Lou Lamoriello will make changes with the trade deadline raplidly approaching.
I hope they keep Brock Nelson. Don't rely on computers, Hil, they've known to be wrong. Good hearing from you, Gil, maybe they'll trade for youth, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  13. win 16 of last 24 …possible playofffs? definitely need five in a row to get some momentum…been a couple of years i believe before we have had a five game win streak…doubtful but hey hope is what we cling to until it's over i guess. i agree, gil though it's almost better to not make it for long term health

  14. That first period was great, they back checked every time Dallas entered the D zone…Barzy with the effort of the year on that OT winner. That is what it takes for them to win and its too much to ask too many times and too late in the year. The fourth line is barely used compared to a couple of years ago forcing the top lines to be on the ice too long. McLane looks good out there. Both goals were scored by the assist man putting the puck into open space and have the trailer skate into it.

  15. is it me or did they look slow last night coming out of their zone? and do they dump the puck into the opponent's corner on offense more than any other team?

  16. Good morning team. Gil, I'm going to repeat what others are saying about the show. Locked On Islanders is the one consistent thing about the Islanders. You do a fantastic job putting everything together for us and truly appreciate it. Thank you, Sir! As for the game last night, I loved the way the team played against a much better hockey team, in my opinion. Yesterday, we both said, sometimes, the Islanders do surprise us, and they did just that. Even the one penalty kill was very good, for most of it until the Stars scored, at the very end. The Flyers are in the last playoff spot. They are points ahead of the Isles, and we have a game in hand. We can't worry about anyone else but the Flyers right now. Play each game the way they did last night, like it is an elimination game. That's the only advice I can muster, at this moment. Tough games are coming up down the stretch. Every one of them is important. Everyone, have a great day! See you all tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  17. Morning Gil, I gotta say if the trade is worth the risk, then pull the trigger. I became an isles fan when I just decided to go to a Bridgeport (sound tigers) game one day and watched Okposo, Bailey, Nelson and Martin play. Seeing them grow to all stars and captains was great to see but sometimes it’s just time to say goodbye. Too be honest there’s a few more guys I’d miss but kinda need to go.

  18. Hi Gil!! Nice show! I’m very pissed at this team! I’ll leave it at that! Take care Gil! OT winner and “I’m so excited”!! They wasted my hockey year!! Seething with them.

  19. Gm Gil. I didn't see the game as all I am following are the standings. The Isles are not a playoff team and so the question has to be asked, what are they playing for? I would think the answer to that is a place on the team next season, showcasing talent for the trade deadline, and giving certain players a chance for some time in the show. You do have to wonder whether players who have now been on the roster for 3+ seasons given the team's rapid decline in the final Trotz season and the following two can resurrect their play. Dobson and Barzal are not elite. Sorokin is no longer a top 5 goalkeeper. Varlamov has been poor. I do wonder what exactly led to Trotz's firing because I suspect he saw coming what have now and wanted to trade off a bunch of folks.

  20. Has we discussed in our emails. They need to do this retool. If they start now Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Holmstrom, Romanov, Sorokyn and maybe a couple of other guys will still be in their prime when the new younger players come of age. Plus they get more cap space for next year. If I was Lou maybe they could package Brock with somebody else like Lee, Palmeiri or Pageau. But Lou is being stubborn. It really makes no sense at all to not do a retool of some sort. There is no way they can win a round in the playoffs with this penalty killing. They can not kill a penalty against an above average power play when needed.

  21. I'm afraid this team cant win a game in regulation and that's fine to win against western conference teams in OT but we can't keep giving teams in our own conference and division a free point because this will most def come back to bite us in the ass. I like the lineup changes but I still think we need to focus on the future and if that means trading Pageau to bring up Ishakov i'm all for it but I have a feeling they a showcasing Brock on the wing for a possible trade. Nobody on this team should be untouchable but if we can send Nelson with Wahlstrom and a pick to Vancouver for Elias Petterson I'm down for that line with Horvat and Barzal.

  22. Lou's loyal to his players ( sometimes to a fault). IF he considered moving Nelson you best believe he would ask him FIRST if he wanted to go to a serious contender. No trade would happen without Nelson's knowledge and approval.

I just hope this win doesn't create a false sense of hope and cost us another pick, even if we make it we'd be a quick out.

Thanks Gil, great coverage as always.

  23. watching Barzal last night was really magic, agreed, and Horvat is amazing as well. These two can be deadly

  24. (Was AmericanCadet.). Some GMs view prospects as people that haven’t dont a darn thing. They prefer trading for proven talent. While there is some validity behind this concept, the Islanders have just about boxed themselves in. I would love the Islanders to make the playoffs, but if there is a good Nelson offer, you have to do it.
