Than three minutes to go in the game uh Charlie Coyle took advantage of a Jordan Eberly tripping penalty on David poso and scored his 21st from posto and Brad Marshon to tie things up so there’s a couple ways to look at this game you could look at it as another blown lead

Where the Bruins are now I believe 251 and eight after leading in the third period of the Season which is the uh highest amount of losses and a bottom five win percentage in that scenario or you could look at it at as the Bruins playing their fourth Road game on a western

Conference road trip we’re down in the third period they came back and tied it up and eventually lost in a shootout which is a bit of a coin toss skills competition to begin with I’m choosing to look at the cup half full scenario here the Bruins

Picking up a point they got five of a possible eight points on this road trip winning in Edmonton which is no small feat against an Oilers team that’s very good legitimate cup contenders yes they were up in that one Edmonton came back Boston kept fighting W in overtime uh they lost

3-2 in overtime to the Calgary Flames uh this two was a game in which they were actually losing heading into the third it was our boy Charlie Coyle who tied things up and then codrey won it in overtime the Vancouver game they were winning two nothing lost 3-2 in overtime

Again Vancouver is a legitimate cup Contender and those things happen over the course of an 82 Game season the Bruins were up last night then they were down they tied things up lost ini shootout that’s a string of one two three six games in a row that have gone to extra time seven

Of their past eight and they have lost the majority of those games they lost in a shootout to the lightning overtime to the Kings overtime to the Flames overtime to the Canucks shootout to the Kraken they beat um Edmonton in the overtime and Dallas in a shootout so right now it’s

Just this window of games in which there’s been some blown leads a lot of extra time and the Bruins just haven’t been able to figure out how to close these games but there have been some scenarios in which they’re down and we’re able to fight back it’s an 82 Game

Season it’s a long season these things are going to happen over the course of of a regular season and the reality is I honestly don’t know what we expected of this team coming into this season I tweeted I believe yesterday before the game or X or whatever you want to say

The NHL posted you know the Bruins could get back into first place overall with the win in Seattle February 26th in the first season in the post Patrice berson era after having also Lost David Cree this team is still tied for first overall in the NHL absolutely nobody expected that now

Mind you they are uh fifth or tied for fourth I should say in point percentage with the Rangers Jets Panthers slightly ahead of them we’ll discuss that coming up here in the the weekly cup check but still to even fathom that the Bruins are anywhere close to first place in what

Was supposed to be a transition season they’re relying on some value contracts and James Van remsd Danton Heinen they have $4.5 million in dead cap space in overages for Patrice berson and David Cree that right there is another scoring forward you could add or another Pavo

Zaka you could add the fact that they’re even in the conversation for Tops in the conference in the NHL is pretty remarkable and if you take away those loser points that they’ve gotten they would still be a wild card team right now which is pretty darn impressive and

You could look at it as though the Bruins continuing to collapse they lack that Killer Instinct and that’s true there’s no denying that you have to learn how to close out a game and to hold on to leads but at the same time like I I talked yesterday they don’t really have the

Horses to be considered a great Squad and the fact that they’re even in this position at this time is a testament to Jim Montgomery being able to get the most out of this group so far maybe not the most because they have left points on the table but they’re

Still tied for the most points in the NHL at the moment slipping a bit in terms of point percentage some other teams are jumping up uh we’ll discuss that coming up but you know credit to the Bruins for coming back they had a goal that was wiped out they

Went down again they could have easily just called it a day and anticipated coming back to Boston but they kept fighting they got the goal to tie things up sent it to overtime which solved nothing lost in a shootout which is a coin flip 82 points at this

Wins and 22 losses so you can kind of see the disparity there and the loser Point how it’s boosting them now they have earned 68.3% of all available points this season and that is fifth in the NHL at the moment so there’s some other teams that are kind of emerging perhaps as

More legitimate Stanley Cup contenders the Florida Panthers for one they’re eight- two over their last 10 they have the best point percentage in the NHL they’re two points back of the Bruins but they have two games in hand they have a nice 69% point percentage at the moment

Slightly better than the Winnipeg Jets who are at 688 the New York Rangers at 686 and the Canuck and Bruins tied at 683 you if you look at at goal differential the Bruins trailing Vancouver who’s at plus 52 the Florida Panthers are plus 51 jets are plus 39 and the Bruins are plus

37 and over their last 10 the Bruins among teams in the top five they’ve got the worst record over the past 10 games three2 and five Vancouver’s four five- one Rangers redot nine- one although they last lost their last game the Jets are six and4 they’ve won three in a row

Florida Panthers 8-2 and they’re really coming on here as a team to beat and again I would not be surprised if some point soon they overtake the Bruins for top spot in the Atlantic in the Eastern Conference Boston’s underlying numbers are not very good either which should give you an indication

Of the fact that yeah they’re not among the best teams in the NHL this season legitimately and I don’t think we should have expected that which we’ll touch on later when it comes to shot attempt differential at 5 on five the Bruins rank 23rd 47.5 eight they have

Allowed 2938 shot attempts five on five they’ve taken only 2,667 to put it in real numbers JS at five on five the Bruins rank 22nd so they’re regularly being outshot at five on five when it comes to expected goals things look a bit better for the Bruins they

Rank um 15th so again kind of middle of the pack when it comes to expected goals scoring chances they’re just above 50% at five on five they rank 18th and when it comes to high danger scoring chances or high danger attempts the Bruins rank 15th so again

Kind of middle of the pack what has helped the Bruins all season long and why they are still second when it comes to PDO is a save percentage of 93.2 s at five on five which is second only to the Winnipeg Jets they’re also getting some pretty good success scoring

Five on five despite being outshot and attempted quite regularly they ranked sixth in safe percentage their PDO which is adding up the save percentage and shooting percentage is second right now at 102.8 and the belief is that you know teams will generally level off at around

Looking to uh erase what was a very very tough start but they’re coming on and probably the team to beat in the Western Conference along with maybe the Jets the stars are very good in the East the Bruins are you know gonna have to face a gauntlet either way if they fall the

Second they’ll have to play Toronto or Tampa and then let’s say Florida then the hurricanes or the Rangers just to get out of the East would you put Boston ahead of the Rangers Panthers hurricanes at the moment can they beat the Maple Leafs yeah maybe the lightning any team you face is

Going to be difficult in the Eastern Conference playoffs and we saw last year the Bruins just dominating the regular season Florida kind of stumbled along and we all know what happened in the playoffs so as long as you get into the playoffs anything can happen but for us to expect greatness from this

Look at their lines last night they had so many guys in there that nobody would have predicted coming into this season yet Anthony Rashard Danon Heinen Justin brazzo Jasper vist Parker Witherspoon these are all players even Mason Lite to a certain degree that were not projected to

Be in the lineup at any point this season much less getting first line Second Line minutes now what I think should happen is and again we’ll discuss this more tomorrow but giving some of these legit building blocks a look there’s no reason why Fabian lysel should not be up on the

Roster at this moment Mason Lai I said yesterday I’ll be very disappointed if they don’t keep him up for the majority of the Season yes you can be frustrated with how they lose you can be frustrated with the losses but to be mad about the Bruins being tied for the most

In a blender trying to see what works maybe just stick with something for a little bit and see what sticks um you could argue about yeah Rashard and brazzo being up instead of merkulov and lysel give those guys a shot what have you got to lose they’re productive scorers at the AHL

Level there are things to quibble about but overall big picture this team is really a middle of the- pack team and nobody would have been surprised if they had a wild card spot right now and were kind of yeah Fringe playoff team the fact that they have amassed the fifth highest point

Percentage or fourth highest point percentage so far this season there’s a lot of points that were left on the table but it’s still a testament to what they’ve been able to get and the goal tending that have been been keeping them in the games tomorrow like I said we’re going
