Elliotte Friedman “the talks with Carolina those were legit, Carolina made an offer, I don’t know what it was but, it made Vancouver think. At the very least Rutherford brought it to the table and said if you’re not gonna give us an answer this is something we are going to consider.

This is from the podcast at around 4 minute mark.

He also said that the prevailing thought is that Rutherford wouldn’t have made the deal because nothing Carolina can offer helps make them better this year than with Petey but, he followed up saying that this was something they would continue exploring should they not feel comfortable with his stance on the negotiations.

Also he compared it to the tkachuk situation and said they probably figure they don’t want to go to the summer having to fight for a deal when the player might just say hey I want to leave.

It might be copium but, if no deal is signed then there’s still a chance there. Seems Carolina is top of the list of suitor’s at least from the front offices perspective.

We just have to hope negotiations break down again

I wish these posts came with more context. I’m not following canes news trades and rumors much, so these posts make no sense to me at all.

Obviously the logic is sound and they could actually trade him if it looks like he’ll walk, but I think it’s more about public negotiations getting the fire lit under some asses.

It’s unfortunate because we’re really just the third wheel here, the backdrop to their negotiations.
