If he’s right about that then savard isn’t going anywhere

This is the right approach a 1st+ sure. Just a late 1st dunno if that’s worth it. Our Dcore is still young as fuck and will get even younger talent injected soon. Savard is just solid as hell, good vet.

I think Savard would be a great guy to pair with Lane Hutson once he’s here.

I’m fine with it as long as they sign another veteran RHD in the summer. It’s not going to be in anyone’s best interest to head into next season with Matheson and then a bunch of young guys who aren’t ready for top minutes yet. I won’t mind if they just keep him too, for the same reasons.

I would like them to demand a 1st plus a prospect. His experience with the young players is invaluable. He has a Cup, has played in big games, and is a role model for his absolute toughness. Is intangibles to this young team is worth a lot.

  6. If the return for Tanev is any indication of the market then we should keep Savard imo.

  7. sandweiche

Is it a hot take to say I’d take a first for him, period.

  8. KantanaBrigantei

I’m okay either way. Keep him or trade him for something valuable on paper. Both are good for us.

  9. I wouldn’t even trade him for a combo of picks that is “equal” to a first

just a 1st or a former 1st prospect, after the first-round pick value drops so significantly it’s not worth it (id take the flyers early 2nd which is from Columbus)

This is one of the reasons I’m impressed with KH. Savard has potentially higher value here than to a contender needing experienced gritty RD. No one is untradeable but recognize savard’s value here may be greater than what clubs are reasonably willing to pay.

He‘a like our new Josh Georges. Good vet and a great example for the kids to learn from.

  12. Noo he’s turning Arber into “the man”.
Let’s not forget our long term goal of having the bash brothers every night.

  13. Honestly, by the end of last year, I would’ve been fine getting some decent pick for Savard. Watching him out there, and the way he commands the youngsters, I really like that they’ve identified a vet that will help all the players. Not just the ones that play his position.

The market is set already. Thats the problem. No way does Savard get us this much back when Tanev barely got a first worth of value.

Savard still has another year to his contract and he’s a really useful veteran. If a team wants him they’ll have to pay a high price. He stabilizes our defense full of young thugs who still have a lot to learn. I would keep him and sell him next year at the trade deadline

  16. Burgergold

We dont need the third option (multiple picks)

  17. wathappen

Trade Savard and get a first. Then acquire M-E Vlasic and get a second for taking on a bad contract. Net : we retain a hometown boy + two great early-round picks.

  18. Out of respect for a guy that accepted such an affordable contract because he wanted to play in Montreal. He ain’t going nowhere unless we really get an offer we can’t refuse.

  19. WeathervaneJesus1

Hughes sets a high price on mediocre players and he ends up getting stuck with them. He could have moved Josh for a 1st and now he would need multiple firsts to get rid of him. Savard is a replacement level player and there will be tons of them in free agency.

  20. hexsealedfusion

Well guess he’s staying then, highly doubt they get that.

  21. DangerDavez

Savard went from being the scapegoat to being a very important part of this team. Unless someone overpays, you keep him. He’s had a positive influence on all the young guys. He’s the team Dad.

  22. Mtlsandman

I’d rather trade Matheson and get a Pacioretty type return for him. Like an actual top 10 talent, a roster player and a 2nd round pick.

Matheson’s value will plummet once we are expecting wins. He plays way too many minutes for the amount of mistakes and poor defensive coverage. He’s going to cost us a lot of games when we actually need the points. Either that or he gets leapfrogged into a secondary role by our younger guys, which is a better fit for him, but then he’s going to need to be extended which will be an overpaid 2nd pairing D.

All in all, his value is at its highest right now, I’d get a ransom for him asap.

  23. itsnotagreatusername

Trade him. For a pick. Then spend all summer trying to get a FA to do the same job. Or being stuck with rookies that should spend more time in Laval…

    No thanks.

  24. steve_c_2377

I get we all love Savard and have enough mid round picks, but if you get a first, you take it and run.

  25. greg_levac-mtlqc

Why the hell is the management so focused on trading away any good player over age of 25? Savard needs to stay. And it bucjs that Monahan is gone too.
