GAME RECAP: Penguins at Flames (03.02.24) | Gruden Scores First NHL Goal



Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the Calgary Flames for their third game of a four-game road trip. Pittsburgh took the first lead. Scoring his first NHL goal was Jonathan Gruden. Gruden entered the zone with the puck and was forced wide. Throwing the puck on net from the goal line, the puck trickled through the pads and into the back of the net. Followed shortly after, the Penguins got their second of the night. With some tic tac toe passing on the power play ending in a shot on net, the rebound popped up into the air where Lars Eller batted the puck into the back of the net. The Flames responded in the 2nd period with their first goal by Yegor Sharangovich. Early in the 3rd, Pittsburgh took a 3-1 lead. Jeff Carter tipped a shot from Ryan Graves and expanded their lead. At the mid-way point of the 3rd, the Flames scored two quick goals 32 seconds apart to even the score 3-3. Nazem Kadri on the power play followed by Blake Coleman. The teams remained tied until 50 seconds left in the game when the Flames Sharangovich got his second of the night and sealed the game. The Flames won 4-3.

  1. Defense is atrocious. This team just can’t play D, and repeatedly relies on the netminder to bail them out

  2. as much of a pens fan as I am, I think the term Chokeguins is plausible at this point. Too many old players and the coaching staff needs replaced. Absolutely inexcusable with the table available.

  3. This team has to be one of the least physical teams in the league. No bangers at all. Kadri walked through that defense because he knew no one was taking the body.

  4. The old same song. Pens lead then Pens lose. Critically impossible for the team to keep good score from time to time. After 3-1 I was almost sure that it's not victorious game.
    Time to rebuild

  5. Kadris goal was amazing but such soft defence. Play the body. The old 29er would have been disgusted no one checked him

  6. Would be nice if the goalies could actually make saves. So tired of watching this and people making excuses. The goalies just aren’t good. And we traded Fleury for this?
