Honestly that was just a good hockey game. That being said – I’m really getting tired of Mika not doing anything even strength.
Am I the only one that doesn’t mind shootouts? W have 3 on 3 first, a “gimmick” is a fine way to end it in a regular season game and
Bread vs bob is going to be interesting. They’re like bffs.
It’s concerning that the only line with true chemistry is the Panarin line. I don’t even know that a new RW will be able to wake Zibs up.
Butted heads with a good team and took a point from it. Can’t really be too mad at that. However there was a whole bunch of sloppy play this game, massive passes that went either nowhere or directly to a Leafs player, and the usual defensive oopsies that make me wanna tweeze my nose hairs. Shesty played lights out and is the only reason the score was still in hand. Vinny T bagging a couple home, and Laffy just looking more confident and complete the more the days go. Boys on the first line need to take a hit of those smelling salts because they look too lost for my liking. OT was an absolute blender of things that spike my blood pressure, and the shootout was…the shootout. Again, can’t be mad at the OTL, on to the next one.
See ya Monday.
I didn’t see the 1st goal in shootout for the leaves was it a good goal? I heard he brought the puck back after shesty challenged if so it shouldn’t count no?
When was the last time they scored on a breakaway? I can’t remember. I have never seen a team miss so many breakaway chances.
Lets be real, we stole a point cause we were good, id say better but it felt quite even, cant be mad to get a point and pretty much almost win in the shootout, just a tough bounce
1st line needs to step up.
Something needs to be done with 20 and 93.
Two good teams. Would be a hell of a series
I know some are worried about Rempe, but the kid is having A legendary run here . He’s fighting every teams top enforcer. In 5 straight games. The first 6 in his career. That’s insane, and he’s willing, and able to handle it. The kids got some big balls. The way other crowds are reacting to him. He’s made a huge mark on the NHL.
If you are upset about the game idk what to tell you. We played the second hottest team and came up short in the shootout
From *REMPE, RELEASE US/Where’s Joe Micheletti* as tonight’s episode of Rangers Hockey, honestly, this was an amazing game. Games like this, gives me vibes that I don’t want to play the Leafs in the playoffs. Why? 1. If it gets into a game of rush and speed, it favors them. 2. If they win the series(Leafs) it will be imo, the biggest embarrassment/talk of the league that you lost a playoff series to them. Bread-Troch-Laf line played well. Fox played well, wish he bury those chances, Rempe brought his Jam and changed the game in a way. But good on him really focusing on his game until traffic cone slowpoke Reaves showed up. A draw was the fight, as well as the game. Loved the resilience to comeback late. There’s belief in the room as what Troch said.
But, the real concern is tonight, was that, the first line including 20 and 93 didn’t produce. Yeah I did like the forechecking effort from 20, but tonight, summed up the season from 93. Hesitant to shoot, unselfish(which sometimes I don’t mind), pass first. he needs to get going on 5v5. And yes, a RW is going to be needed. That line needs it so damn bad. You can’t go into the playoffs expecting one line and a goalie to bail you out. you just can’t. I think if you could put that cuylle-brodz-kakko line together again, then great. But this team needs a RW ASAP. But, Drury knows he has find the right price for one and not give up a player or high level prospect/pick.
Anyway. Loved the comeback. 3 on 3 was amazing, but it once again came down to a skills competition. And those guys are acting like the won the cup. Fuck off. Seriously. Chant “we want (insert team city/state)” and see what happens. Yeah, the Canes bottled the game, but the Rangers got the point. It’s still an important one. Did they deserve a point after that comeback? yes. But whatever
Onto the Cats. In what might be a game of the year type game.
Onto the Cats.
Sorry but Mika isn’t a good enough 1C to win a cup. Everything else has been fun to watch. Good game.
Takeaways: Mika March showed up in the shootout. And we got the point! That’s what matters. I’m glad we cameback. Back home to face the Panthers. See you Monday! LGR!!
Mika the cat needs to come back.
We didn’t play our best game but I’ll take the point, Toronto is a dangerous team so I’m glad we got something. Wasn’t a terrible game, just not our best.
On a different note, I just stumbled on [this thread from the Devils sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/devils/s/CTka4Fzven) while looking up something about Vally, if you want a laugh check it out. So many braindead takes bundled into one convenient package
Cheers to all ya who are calling out Zibanejad, yet another ghost game in a season full of them. Sure sure, Goodrow sucks, but he’s also our 4th line center, on the ice about 1/3rd as much as Zibanejad EV. If Zib doesn’t wake up by the playoffs, we’re cooked. Goodrow is largely irrelevant.
Happy with the point. I concur that it’s time to break up Mika and Kreider. Kreider could be a matchup nightmare on a “3rd” line. Wish it could be tried at least once. Not holding my breath though. Sounds like we have to hope the deadline RW acquisition fixes that pair.
Also, Goodrow is being paid to be an elite defensive forward, but his metrics do not indicate he is anything of the sort. Really wish he was the odd one out with the upcoming trades.
Lavvy is falling into veteran coaching clichés. Tonight is dedicated to “our best players have to be our best players.” Wearing out our best players from puck drop through OT isn’t setting them up for success either, especially when our hottest player, Laffy, got 17+ which is closer to his normal ATOI than not and Kap got pretty much his ATOI.
Zibby – 28:14
Kreider – 25:16
Bread – 22:37
Troch – 24:12
I’m praying that whatever message Lavvy was trying to send to Cuylle, Jonny Broadway, and Himmy gets received and they get their game together cuz all of them got their ice cut tonight. I’m grateful Lavvy felt comfortable getting Eddy and Rempe their normal ice time and even gave them shifts at the end of the game, as it shows a lot of confidence in those guys.
Schneider is a real issue no wants to acknowledge around here
i tried posting this as a separate post but for some reason its not posting so ill just put it here
Ive loved what mika has done and how hes developed since he got here but i think its time we have a serious discussion about his play not just this season but the last 2 playoffs he was nonexistent last season in the playoffs and the year before other than the pens series he was just terrible the only reason we got that far 2 years ago was cause of igor and the kid line, realistically if we dont make it far this year is it time to see what we can get in a trade for him next season.
Remember kakko had like 7 points in 9 games before they put him back with zib and kreids
It’s just so so frustrating with some players on this team at this point and honestly as a fan I get so frustrated because I know what some of these guys are really capable of. Start with Mika. Man he’s hella talented and he’s been good defensively for us and still has 54 points but man where has he even been this entire season. He is just a ghost of the player he used to be last season. I thought he’d go for 50 this year but no every time he has the puck he passes it to an invisible player on the ice or aimless shoots it at the net for Kreids to 50/50 score on it. Next up Goody. He wins face offs and kills some penaltys but it’s so concerning how we are going to get nothing for him. I feel like defense last year was so much more involved offensively. We had some good key goals and rare schneids goals but most importantly foxy scored a lot. Kaapo needs to go back to the third line also. There’s no saving Mika and Krieds they need a break from each other or a really strong RW because every player moved up to help them is honestly being held back on their line. Yeah that’s my thoughts for tonight obviously we still have managed to win games but with this tough March schedule we can’t be hanging by on a thread in games we need to completely dominate.
Mika has been brutal this year. There’s no way to look at his even stretch stats and say it’s good enough 5v5. It’s bad for a 1C. He’s part of the problem if they once again falter in the playoffs. I know his contract is hefty but I would legit think about moving him if possible. Get a nice return now before that contract looks horrendous. I know this is a hot take but I see his game declining as he gets older.
Shit I fell asleep at 6:50 and slept through the whole game.
Did I miss anything? How was Rempe?
Edit: I guess it was a better game than I thought.
Sick of the second line only scoring in big games like this where we need the entire top 6 to put in work.
Mika is genuinely so bad he’s bringing down krieder with him, either scratch Mika or move him to the 3rd and cut his TOI. Nothings changing with him and it’s honestly holding us back.
Grades
Offense+pk a-
Overall pretty damn good but a shame we couldn’t finish it off. Woll was great though. Laf went absolutely off. Still no excuse for being so sloppy on the pp when we were clearly better. Also I’m confident this Tema can score a 6v5 goal on almost anyone.
Defense+pk b-
With how good and desperate our offense was late on we really didn’t see much defense. A lot of the goals were luck, but igor also bailed out a few saves. Our pk was amazing though esp vs toronto. It’s a pain though that if you give marner mathews and Nylander half an inch they take a mile.
Gt:a
Igor kind if shut down in the so, only reason this isn’ta+. Great almost all game.
Ill be honest we need to slow Rempe down a bit. He’s gotta stop fighting every enforcer he sees and he needs to cool it with the borderline dirty hits. He’s 6’8″ he doesn’t need to charge or leave his feet to hit Lyubushkin. I hope DOPS doesn’t give that hit another look because I think we need Rempe for the Panthers game.
The way people talk about Kreider and Mika on here is… kind of insane?
On the whole this year, the duo is outscoring their opponents **34-22 at 5v5**. They’re not scoring as much as we’d like, but they’re also not allowing other teams’ top lines to score either.
Part of that goal differential is due to a 103 PDO, but the line combination of Kreider-Zibanejad-(anyone but Blake Wheeler) has an expected goals % of 51.16% which shows that they aren’t only getting good results due to puck luck. (KZ-Wheeler had a 46.87 xG%. He was BAD on that top line).
I too would prefer if they were scoring at a higher rate. The number 1 priority of this deadline is getting someone who can do exactly that. But this sub talks about them as if they’re a liability when in reality they are generally outplaying their opponents when on the ice at 5v5 even if it is mainly due to defense.
Big positive is holy fuck laf has arrived, next season with full pp1 time he’s gonna put up 70+ points, he’s projecting to finish at 52 now almost completely even strength. Take the point and move on, Samsonov probably made a save or two he usually doesn’t and that’s the difference. Mika needs to be better, no two ways about it. This team doesn’t go far in the post season if Mika isn’t MUCH better. Fun game though
March just started hoping that clicks for Mika since he is neither top 40 in goals nor points in the league. I do not care where they come from but i want more of them.
I’ve actually been a Goodrow advocate thus far but I thought he had a bad game tonight.
