  1. Great responsible deal for the Canucks at a time that really helps the franchise. The NHL's highest paid best team driving players like Matthew's, McKinnon, McDavid… all took a while time to hit the level they're playing at now. Petey is much younger than them and I strongly believe in time as Petey gets bigger, stronger, faster, and wiser he'll be the difference maker that those top players are now and even better value as a lot of those players will all be making much more than Petey will years from now.
This is and will be a team friendly deal like Miller's (which is now a crazy bargain) that will allow the Canucks to ice the caliber team it takes to be a true cup contender over and over.
Now hopefully Hughes, Hronek, Joshua, Lindholm…. all get signed to team friendly deals when their time comes.

  2. Anyone who thinks that Elias can't elevate this franchise is dead wrong; he ALREADY HAS elevated the Canucks. He did it in his first season.

The Sedins had just retired before Pettersson's rookie season. The Canucks had Horvat and Boeser, two very good players but not franchise-level superstars. And that was it – there were no other young players on the NHL roster whom they could build a championship team around.

Then came Elias. 13 minutes into his first game, he stormed down the right wing against Calgary and beat Mike Smith clean with a wrist shot. He went on to score 10 goals in his first 10 games.

That was the moment that he elevated the franchise. He took them from "the Sedins are gone and there's no one good enough to build a cup contender around" to "maybe this team can actually become good now that have THIS guy."

Elias Pettersson did that. In his first 10 games. He singlehandedly gave this fanbase hope that the 5 prior years of complete misery might end up being worth it. He completely revitalized the hopes of the Canucks fanbase, and it only took him 10 games.

    Never forget.

  3. Why was this so hard to sign…negotiating with a landscaper to cut your grass is more complex than this…>?!?!

  4. There's no way they were going to trade their best player in the midst of a playoff push. They still have a chance to be 1st overall in the league. Imagine what that would have done to the locker room. There also would have been a fan revolt in Vancouver.. I think their GM was totally bluffing. Would have been an absolutely HORRIBLE move to trade someone who might very well end up being the best player in franchise history.

  5. Spectactular value for the Nucks….just awesome….when he is rounding 30+ yrs old, like Miller is now, at thta time this may be the best deal inthe NHL by a "counrty mile". He may be the best player by then….now – imagine if they got Jake Guensel for his wing….oh my

  6. I was harse on EP last couple weeks. He wanted to have a contender and he got that and was still playing games. Nice to hear hes on board with trying to win a cup this year and in the future. I lived in YVR for 2 decades and he is a multo millionaire living in one the nicest cities in the world. My apologies for ragging on you and nice to see your with us well into the future. Lets go Canucks. If he wouldnt have signed by trade deadline I was all for trading the young star.

  7. Regarding Pettersson’s relationship with Miller, they seem like two people with similarly competitive moods. Miller in a more extroverted way and Pettersson more quietly but they both seem have consistently high expectations and get riled up when those aren’t met. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have more in common with each other character-wise than either of them do with most of their teammates.

  8. Should've showed class like Marchand by saying no way im taking more money than our best player…

  9. I hope they don't gut the future, what little of it thats left having traded all the firsts and seconds we can't trade the last prospects ( I'm already a little queasy about losing hunter brzustewicz) because we are going to need cheap skilled guys like Lekkerimaki, that fit under the cap to win a cup. We aren't even sure this team can win a single series this year given the inconsistent play recently. It's gonna be real hard to get to the final and all the top eastern teams are looking really good.

  10. Good thing the Canucks turned everything around this year. It is fate that Pettersson stays, while his best bud Boeser was not traded out of the team this year. Who knows what would have been if Boeser was not here this year and not having a chance to get 30 goals with us. The best move is not to move at all, prove true!
