  1. I feel sorry for Berggren, I really do. If he is frustrated (which I think he is) then I understand. Last season he played well, he had 15 goals last season, before the season started I thought he would 20-25 goals. That didn't happen, Stevie signed a lot of free agents, and the Kane decided to throw his lot in with us. Only reason he is in GR is that we had to many forwards and he was the only one that didn't have to clear waivers. Being on the top line in GR is better for his development than being on the Red Wings 4th line or a healthy scratch.

He will be an RFA so it's not like we have to trade him or lose him. Trading him for a pick that we hope will be as good as him, doesn't make any sense. Next season he will have to clear waivers. If I had to make a guess about his future, I would say that he'll sign a one year deal in the off-season, a prove it type contract.

  2. Yzerman has said many times that he would rather trade picks for known players, I can't see him wanting to part with Berggren for a anything that's not a sure thing. In other words picks. Berggren rejecting an offer is not news, it's how negotiations work. I also don't blame him for wanting out if they don't have a plan to get him up with the big club next season. His contract value only goes up if he's actually in the NHL so toiling in the AHL is losing him money in the future.

  3. If we’re giving up Berggren, I want size and physicality. We don’t need more small-ish forwards

  4. The Hockey Guy on youtube recently did a 2018 redraft and had Berggren as the 12 pick in the first round. I agree with what you said about trading him for a draft pick who we could only hope to be as good as Berggren so why not just keep him. He got drafted along with Veleno and Zadina who seem like they've been pros for years. Berggren has been marinating for an awful long time. If I was him I'd say play me or trade me also. Trade Fabbri and bring up Berggren. Free up a few million to pay Raymond and Seider.

  5. I would agree with your statement @5:44. I think he could have benefitted from being around Perron this year in Detroit. I think he's a viable replacement for Fabbri / Perron if he could foster puck possession technique/pace play from him. For the sake of trading him out? I think picks would be the most prudent thing because of the nature of the existing core. You will need talent down the road to continue a contender franchise. Guentzal in my mind shouldn't be even in discussion… Guentzal is where he's at because he plays around and with Crosby. In other words, he will NOT produce nearly as much without Crosby. Pittsburgh will win on almost every deal done in shipping him out.

  6. Only player I'd accept is Petterson. Sign and trade on July 1st with a 24 1st and maybe a conditional on the other first.

  7. We can’t have a team full of offensive forwards and expect to play defense… trade him, he deserves it and the wings deserve a solid return

  8. Get a netminder if we trade berggren. Don't need another older D when we already have a logjam of young players. Get a proven goalie and get the cup.

  9. I do like the saros. Idea but we'd have to give up alot. And we got a surplus of goalies. And cossa and augestine coming. He's 28 years old. If we grab him for the amount we give up for what 3-4 good seasons. Until cossa arrives.

  10. when the wings where in the position they are now and better….every year. Prospects would set in GR. When you got a team the young guys waiting for the chance to play for: REDWINGS

  11. i think in the offseason all can be forgiven from bergs camp. next season he would be a regular with some guys hitting ufa and not coming back. stevie will do whats best for the wings and their future with or without johhny burgers.

  12. I think Detroit will be aggressive and make a large addition because this version of Patrick Kane will command close to triple his current AAV next season. There's a huge competitive advantage in his current performance/caphit. There is a chance this season for them to push hard. My guess is Buchnevich.

  13. Berggren would be in the NHL on just about every other team in the NHL. Yzerman just doesn’t like him. We have enough small forwards

  14. Sad reality is he probably was given a low ball offer since he isnt in the NHL, and has small sample size to assuage the Captains perspective in favor of Bergers getting a Fabbri-like opportunity. He is a Stud. Proven in 3 leagues. SHL, AHL, and NHL. For the minutes played and lines played on, he had GREAT production at 15g and 13a for a 67gm true ROOKIE. I love the kid and will be bummed losing him

  15. Trading Berggren would be a mistake. A 23 year old that has played maybe half a season in the NHL will not provide much in return. Getting Chicryn for Berggren is a pipe dream. I’m thinking a 4th

Copp is the obvious guy to move but with his contract he is untradeable. I’d like to move Veleno
