Team Records: PIT (27-23-8) EDM (36-20-2)

The Oilers currently sit behind only the Vancouver Canucks in the Pacific division standings, and have won their last three games in a row against LAK (4-2), STL (3-2 OT), and SEA (2-1). Connor McDavid leads Edmonton in assists (73) and points (95). McDavid also leads the league in assists, and sits third in the scoring race. Zach Hyman leads the Oilers in goals (40). They have the third-best power play in the league (27.3%) and the 17th-best penalty kill (79.3%).

**Game Notes**

Since the 2017.18 season, the Penguins are 5-4-1 against the Oilers overall, and 3-2-0 in Edmonton.

Sidney Crosby (582) enters tonight’s game one goal shy of tying Wayne Gretzky (583) for the seventh-most goals with a single franchise in NHL history.

Reilly Smith enters tonight’s game with 498 career points (210G-288A), and is two points away from 500 in his career. Drafted in the third round (69th overall) by Dallas in the 2009 NHL Draft, Smith is looking to become the 10th member of his draft class to tally 500 career points.

Marcus Pettersson is quietly putting together the best campaign of his career. Pettersson (3G-21A) is one point shy of tying his single-season high in points of 25 (2G-23A) set in 84 games in 2018.19. The defenseman is also three assists short of setting a single-season high in assists.

  1. Get folded like fresh laundry in the third?

We lose this one, everyone but Sid should be shopped.

  2. In 2 games since returning from injury, poulin has 5 points.

The Oilers are liable to kill us tonight.

  4. bonde_dump

I will start writhing in agony if I see Smith on the second line again

  5. PhantomJB93

Poetic that last season definitively ended with an embarrassing uncompetitive blowout to Edmonton and the same thing is likely about to happen

I don’t even want to watch because seeing the same coaching staff still employed is just gonna annoy me

Last note, Pettersson is getting some points which is awesome. But he has become the unequivocally best defender on the team and probably top 3 in the league. He impresses every game. Only player that can backstop EK65 when he goes on offense.

I don’t need to see any further games to know what actions must be taken. Anything else is a waste of Crosbys time

  9. Lord_Davos

This one is a regulation win, I feel it in my loins

After the letdown at the back end of the last game, I feel like the Pens will either: come out strong and lose in the end or just get run over from start to finish.

  11. How has Puljujarvi been for you guys? Do you think he’ll play tonight?

  12. MMXcalibur

You know they’re going to win 3-0 and get all our hopes up again.

This is one game I’d be ok if it wasn’t televised anywhere. No one likes to see a dying dog kicked.

At least it’ll be entertaining…..watching McDavid

I expect an obliteration. This game probably decides how many people we deal at the deadline. God I hope POJ is scratched tonight.

I anticipate either a blowout or a collapse. Doubt we’ll win. Even if they win it’s going to be a pyrrhic victory and nothing will change until the off-season.

    I am not optimistic.

5-2 oilers is my guess. Mcdavid will have 3 points. Last time they played Edmonton it was a blood bath

  18. Jyingling21

Can we please get eliminated already? I don’t want to see this team anymore.

  19. Imposhibibble

Hmm I won’t be able to watch this to the end but I think skipping the 3rd is probably a blessing 😛

  20. We’re at the point where winning games sort of feels like false hope. Maybe it would be better for my March/April if we just went on a 5-6 game skid and I stopped caring about this crappy team.

Hey caps and Devils lost today at least. Devils gotta be even more disappointed than us this year

With how it’s been here lately I think I’m glad reddit wasn’t a thing between 2002-06
