Pierre LeBrun also named the Canucks as a [legitimate suitor](https://twitter.com/PierreVLeBrun/status/1764712268128792649?t=fwnSJtQKD-1BsEcT-DHNUw&s=19)

Penguins also want prospects rather than picks, Podkolzin gets called up and gets a game before any practices which is highly unusual for this coaching staff. Seems like smoke

Really wish we had those pieces we moved for Lindholm right now.

As a fan of both teams, but a pens fan longer, this is a huge gamble. I wouldn’t mind if he’s passed to another team for how much his contract would cost after this year

Looks like an insurance plan because Lindholm isn’t working out for Petey. But adding Guentzel really solidifies Canucks as the top scoring threat in the West. That is one deep team, especially if you push Lindholm down to 3C and then have Suter/Blueger man the 4th line.

Interesting to see what the price tag is. This team really needs to hold on to some nearly ready prospects to make the salary cap work next season – especially if they want Guentzel to be more than just a rental.

Not sure how the Lindholm deal will age, but I get it. Guentzel will cost someone at least as promising as Podz and some on top. Don’t think that would go over quite as well.

I wouldn’t mind this move as long as Vancouver doesn’t have to give up their blue chip prospects.

Without an extension, I don’t want to give up Podz. The fanbase would shit itself if Hoglander went the other way.

    Podz + other prospects and a future 2nd + 3rds

i’m really hoping lek and willander isn’t a part of the deal…

From the Penguins section of the article the Canucks are identified as long shots to land Guentzel. From the Canucks section, the phrasing reads “they’ve considered Guentzel- it’s aggressive but not sure how possible”.

I don’t think the article identifies the Canucks as aggressive in the pursuit of a Guentzel trade so much as if the trade were to happen, it would be an aggressive move. The article actually identifies Toffoli and Greenway as the Canucks’ targets.

Guentzel coming off on an injury is not ideal for us.

I’d rather they target bigger players at a lower cost.

The team isn’t really playing like a team you push all in on.

Still super impressed with how aggressive Alvin and JR are.

I know everyone is focused on the trade target part of Elliotte’s article but this Petey tidbit is just great.

“Pettersson made it very clear before the season he wanted to win. But it goes deeper than that, not only about what went right on the ice, but how effective the organization worked from top-to-bottom. Several sources said he needed to be convinced it wasn’t just the players who showed the highest level of commitment. Allvin was talking about proving that to Pettersson. When the ball was on the five-yard line, no fumble in the biggest moment.”

Would love to have him come in, but it’s a shame we wasted all that trade capital on Lindholm… who’s so far been an absolute wet blanket to this team.

  15. ubcthrowaway-01

As long as it doesn’t include Lekki and Willander I’m fine w it

  16. TotesMagotes29

Do it. For the sole reason to deny edmonton getting him.

  17. Mikheyev and Raty for Rathbone and Guentzel?

Edit: Clearly everyone missed the joke.

    Allvin: “We want Guentzal”

Dubas: “He joined at the hip to Crosby”

    Allvin: “Okay np”

    Dubas: “Okay–wait, WDYM OKAY?!”

  19. Chipmunk-Adventurous

Ugh…man. I guess this is why I’m not a GM. I really don’t want to give up any prospects, but at the same time…Guentzel would be unreal.

  20. With how they’ve been playing of late it seems to me they really miss Joshua’s grit and Soucy’s defensive acumen… Alvin made the big trade already for Lindholm, does a trade for someone like Greenway to bolster the 4th line and a depth defensive piece not make more sense for this roster right now?
Loved Podz’s performance yesterday and would hate to see him go. Same can be said for Willander and Lekkerimaki.
When Joshua is back up I think it makes the most sense to put Lindholm back with Petterson on his wing. 40 needs a better quality linemate than Mik + flavor of the day.

I’m gonna suggest the two prospects are probably in the Hoglander and Podzkolzin range for the Canucks.

And I’m not sure that’s worth it for a rental of Guentzel

If it’s Podz and Lekkerimaki, probably worth doing for the Canucks

i thought the canucks said they weren’t going to trade for anyone they can’t actually sign, i don’t want to piss away our prospects for a loaner
