Marek and Friedman on Devil’s deadline plans.

TLDR

Toffoli will not be moved at the deadline.

Management believes we are still in the playoff race and are making moves or lack there of when it comes to Toffoli based on it.

Markstrom wants to play for NJ

While the season is disappointing management believes we are still building and this is far from the end

Goalie market has dried up and this is now a backup goalie market

If management still believes they can make the playoffs, they’re more delusional than the fans!

We totally are in the playoff race if they grow some balls and fire Ruff

If management was serious the fraud was been fired a long time ago

This all seems like a pretty egregious misread of the situation.

  5. That fact that management thinks we’re still in the playoff race with games against Florida, Carolina and NYR over the next week is concerning.

It’s really gonna come down to what we do with Toffoli. We either extend him or we trade him for likely a 1st and a prospect/player. Could use that pick for a goalie trade in the offseason or maybe get a dman out of trading Toffoli. I’m fine with either decision at this point but would rather keep him.

Either way, not expecting any big moves from this team until the offseason. Extend Toffoli now. In the offseason, extend Mercer, Daws, Miller and I guess MacDermid if we like what we see out of him and he’s super cheap. Let Smith, Nosek and Tierney walk. Go for Saros, Ullmark or Markstrom. Get a good bottom 6 center and maybe trade/sign a Dman. That’s basically what I’m expecting for roster moves in preparation for next season.

All goodwill Fitzgerald acquired after last season is all gone. He used it up. From keeping his grandpappy Ruff around, to doing dick squat with that 9mil in LTIR cap space… wait, no, he used some of it to help Dallas get better for a 4th rounder. Awesome. Coyotes East.

Maybe he will wear a Dallas Stars jersey at center ice next time we play them.

So the reason Ruff is still around is likely because management thinks we have a shot at the playoffs…

Like, a December/January HC change could be doable and lead to success. March, though? Not so much…

Personally, I think the season is done and we should finally get rid of Ruff but I guess management thinks otherwise

So basically management is gonna believe in this team’s ability to go on a heater until the math says they’re eliminated. Trade deadline market sounds too mid for the team needs on defense and goaltending unless they pay out the nose and the only goalie they really want is getting held back by the other team.

I think they wanna just play this out to see who in the metro is gonna fall backwards into that 3rd seed and if the Devils can be that lucky team.

I like how Markstrom really wants to play for NJ, makes me like the guy since he wants to be here. That being said, I think it’d be best we keep falling, get a top ten pick, and trade it for Saros.

when they say that the goalie market has dried up and now it’s a backup goalie market, are they saying markstrum is back up tier?

Even as an optimistic fan all season I don’t see how this team can make the playoffs at this point. Dropping 5 of 7 and looking completely deflated in a few of those has really set the season back

Doesn’t matter what we do or don’t do, if stuff still calls the shots

  14. wow Fitz continues to look less competent by the day

  15. If this is fitz plan he can start checking indeed too

  16. gothenburgpig

What are they going to say, that management has given up? Please, that would just ruin this team’s psyche more. This is just journalists protecting their sources or management lying to reporters.

I get it. There’s pretty much nothing to be done that won’t be over reactionary. The team was built properly for the most part over last summer, nobody was disagreeing with the moves then. It just fell flat, for whatever reason. Ruff will probably be asked to step down or take another role with the team in the summer. Take the shit kickings they received this year as a lesson and figure it out for next year.

It’s been a massive disappointment this year, but I don’t understand people losing complete faith. Still one of the youngest teams in the league, but overflowing with talent. Been a fan for a long time, the team is too talented to stay down. I can guarantee there will be a time when the fan base looks back at this season as a crucial learning moment. Progress and development isn’t linear. Last year exceeded expectations and this year was a let down. It sucks, and it’s made this sub insufferable because a certain type of fan revels in negativity and being able to shit on everything.
