  1. Pettersson's new contract is adding a $4.15 million cap hit to the Canucks' payroll for the 24-25 year. Let's say the salary cap for the league is increased by 5 million, which seems rather generous actually, that would still leave very little room for the Canucks to re-sign Hronek, Zadorov, Joshua, Lindholm, Blueger, Lafferty, Myers and Podkolzin, the team's notable RFAs and UFAs. Assuming that re-signing Hronek would be a high priority, and thinking that the plays of Joshua, Blueger and Lafferty warrant them to be re-signed with a raise from their very, very reasonable contracts right now, I do wonder where the cap room is going to come from, even if we allow Lindholm and Myers to walk.

  2. The whole fanbase making up their own lore about how Petey hated it in Vancouver and was gonna pull a Tkachuk, meanwhile he just wanted to wait LIKE HE SAID. Glad the deal is done.

  3. Love JP's comment, "sometimes you guys don't really know what's going on." Amen to that. So much dust and smoke raised by the media, just because the parties to the contract wanted to keep things private while they negotiated and didn't provide any new information. So the media filled that void with endless and erroneous speculation, but of course no real insight based on facts.

  4. No, a Tkachuk/Gaudreau situation was not the biggest fear in Vancouver. There was no biggest fear.

There was concern the deal got done along managementā€™s timeline so the team could continue planning with some certainty.
