Top two DROP POINTS. Saints late DRAMA. Relegation tide RISING!!

Round 35 is complete another Sensational block of Championship action here my hot takes player of the round Joe Aro Southampton they say he who laughs last laughs loudest I’m not sure southampton’s Joe arbo had the last laugh but he certainly had the last word in an incredible day at the top of the

Championship we work work through chronologically with leads up first looking for a 10th straight Championship win in the lunchtime kickoff at Huddersfield things got spicy in first half stoppage time when unlikely Center back goal machine Michael helck gave Huddersfield the lead then immediately Terrier’s midfielder Jonathan hog got

Sent off for a second yellow card it looks set for Leeds to make the comeback but they only had Patrick bamford’s goal to show for their 81% possession and 12 shots during the second half lead’s first imperfect result of 2024 meant a chance for Leicester to extend their

Lead at the top IP switch to go second and Southampton to get closer to the top three but halim it looked like Leeds were receiving a get out of jail free card with IPS Swit gold and both Leicester and Southampton W goal behind to QPR and Birmingham first

Place Leicester couldn’t get level with QPR and sunk to a third successive defeat but IPS found two second half goals to beat their league one adversaries Plymouth from last season and move back into the top two as the ipsr players celebrated what looked like being a perfect day there was one vital

Act to be played over at St Andrews Birmingham and Southampton were all square at 33 with Blues down to 10 men after Dion sanderson’s red card just past the hour mark up stepped Aro to scramble home a set play in the 96th minute to give Saints a 43 win and add

Another layer of drama to this thrilling promotion race Southampton are back to winning ways lead’s winning streak is over ipswitch have now won five on the Trot and despite their imperious form for the majority of this season leicester’s third straight defeat has opened the door on a title race that

Just didn’t look possible a few short weeks ago riveting stuff team of the round QPR there’s far too much to say about events in the relegation Zone to deal with in one segment of this piece so I’m going to bolt two together to give it the gravitas it deserves not

Only do we need to talk about our team of the round QPR let’s link that into a conversation about one of the most lethal looking races for survival I can remember in the championship I’ll deal with QPR first they moved out of the bottom three last weekend after a fourth

Victory in a brilliant s game Run unfortunately for Rangers despite their great form there were still issues to deal with firstly three of their bottom six Rivals also won last week to blunt the impact of their win secondly they traveled to leaders Leicester where their recent wins over milw Blackburn

Bristol City and Rodan would surely be put into context by the tablet topping foxes well in a heroic iic away Master Class QPR went to Leicester and with only two shots on target came away with a magnificent 2-1 win I can give relegation threaten QPR no greater

Credit than to say that over the past eight games only leads with that giant winning streak have scored more points than the Hoops that should mean QPR are streaking to safety no this is not your normal survival fight joining Rangers in securing a third straight win with Sheffield Wednesday with their

Incredible Striker EK agbo getting the only goal in a 1- nil win at rotheram stok City grabbed a vital win against an indifferent looking middlesbor outfit to keep Wednesday three points off safety and that’s where things really start to get interesting from Stoke in 22nd Place only one solitary point separ Ates the

Next six sides Huddersfield is still there despite hanging on to draw within form leads Birmingham courtesy of that late jbo goal and milw despite back-to-back wins under the returning Neil Harris blackburns defeat at Swansea work nicely for the swans but put Rover right back in the relegation conversation we’re normally enthralled

By the potential number teams that could finish in the championship playoffs every season this year the race to get away from the bottom three could be equally intriguing and utterly brutal for whoever happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time Looney of the round Mikey Johnston West Brom on loan

From Celtic we didn’t have to wait too long this weekend for me to Crown my low knee of the round just 6 minutes into the Friday night game West brom’s on loan Winger Mikey Johnston treated commentry Wing back Milan van Eric to a moment he’ll want to forget jinking

Johnston on loan from Celtic slunk seamlessly into a nutmeg on the touch line before tiptoeing into the box Sid stepping Josh Eckles and bending the ball into the far corner it was ruthlessly efficient and set the tone for the narrative in the playoff picture this weekend Johnston slem set the

Baggies up for a big 2-1 win against centry which keeps the Sky Blues eight points behind them down in Ninth Place we’ve almost had a pre-playoff playoff this past two weeks with West brm Hull centry and Preston all involved in head-to-heads pleasingly for the baggies the game between Preston and Hall this

Round ended goalless while the other interested party in the playoff equation nor City beat sundland 1- n with a goal from their Talisman Josh sergant there’s precious little being given away at the moment with Norwich and Preston undefeated in six and West Brom and Hull losing just once right now sundland look

To have faded and cry’s backto back defeats mean we’re looking at four teams for two places but let’s be honest I could easily be saying different each and every week as form lines Trend up and down and the runin gains Pace yeah

Round 35 delivered huge drama in the EFL Championship, here are my HOT TAKES!

  1. Could/should and hopefully will be an incredible final 10 weeks or so at both the top and bottom of the best league in the world

  2. i called it last week leicester are bottling it……… i wonder if the leicester fans are as confident as they were 3 games ago…. when you sit comfortably you can only go one way and thats nervous

  3. Depending how results go midweek, there could be 5 teams on 38 and a further 3 on 40.
Wednesday beat Plymouth and Plymouth are absolutely in the relegation fight.
The transformation under Rohl is amazing. 3 points from the first 12, 13 the next 12 and so far 19 from the next 11
Or 1 win in the first 18, 9 in the next 17. Took him a few matches to have an impact on results (though the improvement in play was instant) and the Jan loanees have also made a massive difference, but if we didn’t have the disaster of Munez at first, we’d be safe by now.

  4. Brilliant video Ben. Genuine question – can you ever remember a relegation battle where the bottom teams consistently string wins together?

    Mad

  5. Whats going on with Leicester at the moment? It looked like they could get over 100 points, now it doesn't look likely.
I would like to see Sheffield Wednesday survive but the other teams are able to match their win for the last few weeks

  6. Thanks Ben, nice job. 2 months ago my team, QPR were in Div 3. Now we actually have a chance to stay up!! Baggies at Home Wednesday, If we can Win that, we might get away! In Marti, we trust!! U Rssss

  7. I can't remember a season like it. Just when you thought the bottom three was a done deal with Wednesday seemingly cut adrift before Christmas all of a sudden it seems nobody in the bottom half of the table is safe from relegation. Watford, Bristol City and and Boro in 12th 13th and 14th might also be looking nervously over their shoulders as the gap to the bottom 3 is only 6 points. A couple of bad results for those three could see any one of them drawn back in. Speaking as a Hull City fan, I remember when we sold Bowen and Grosicki we were comfortably in the top six battling for the playoffs and then we didn't win a match after the January transfer window and dropped like the proverbial stone into the bottom three at the worst possible time and went down. There's always one team sitting comfortably in mid table at this stage that seems to end up either going down or only just surviving. Could this be a record year for the number of points needed to stay up?

  8. Fantastic and brilliant summary – write a short story book on this – most Ipswich fans will buy it – if we win the Championship or get promoted to the PL!!

  9. The top and bottom of the championship is going all the way its going to be exciting to neutral fans of football

  10. Every area of the table looks interesting, the race for promotion, the play off push and the relegation battle. You cannot hate the championship!

  11. SWFC – 4 wins in 5 (could be 5 in 6 after Tuesday and it'd be the same), we've gone from 23rd to 23rd. It's frustrating that everyone else keeps winning, something's got to give. The only positive is that we closed the gap on a few teams. I make it 2 from 9 for relegation, I can see it going to the last day.

  12. Lot of hate for Leeds United and their fans suppose it’s no less than we deserve just seems to me when the name alone gets mentioned it makes people’s blood boil I mean are we really that awful as human beings? Congrats to Leicester Ipswich and Southampton on your promotion

  13. James Bell, the referee at the Birmingham v Southampton game, was dropped from a top of the table clash between Ipswich and Charlton, last April.
The reason being that he is a Sheffield Wednesday fan and both Wednesday and Barnsley were in hot pursuit in the promotion race.
It was deemed he had a conflict of interests.

So not sure why he was allowed to officiate in a game involving a team now in a relegation battle along with Sheffield Wednesday.
He made a series of controversial decisions including the straight red for Dion Sanderson, while allowing a similar incident with Bacuna , the main difference was that he was hammered by two Wednesday players.

Am I bitter…yeah, most fans would be.
But what pisses me off most is that had we lost to the Saints with 11 players still on the pitch, it would have been a kick in the stomach, but one can hold our hands up and say well played Saints. Now we are holding our hands up saying WTF just happened?
The whole thing leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.
Just annoyed about the standard of refereeing and potential bias.

    KRO!

  14. Disgusting behaviour from Huddersfield man. Anti football isnt strong enough to describe how they were told to play yesterday. Could have caused several serious injuries. Praying that awful team, manager and fans go down this year, wouldn't have cared otherwise but it's on the verge of bringing the game into disrepute

  15. As a Leeds fan I thought you would have faded away by now credit to you think now you get promoted great side never give in play till final whistle much respect to you

  16. I was at the Argyle v Ipswich game. Mckenna got the Ipswich tactics spot on. They played quite defensively knowing Plymouth's ability to score goals, especially at home. Ipswich were patient, knowing they would get a goal eventually, they always do, albeit a somewhat lucky deflection. They all count though. Ipswich supporters were cock a hoop at getting a clean sheet. Somewhat a rarity for the Town.
