There is NO NEED in the NHL for this garbage

Last night as the Seattle Kraken came into Saddledome to face the Calgary Flames, we had a chippy game to say the least. What’s going to have everyone talking though, was Martin Pospisil. He laid two brutal hits sending guys head first into the boards. First on Larson and later in the game on Vince Dunn. Now I know Pospisil is a player you like to have. I saw that as a Penguins fan the other night where he had 9 hits that game. He is great at being that annoying guy to play against similar to a guy like Brad Marchand. But if that is your game, you’re gonna be expected to answer the bell because the league takes notice and yet, he has said he’s not willing to fight. He’s had 6 concussions so he’s not gonna fight which is pretty clear by the way he turtles when challenged. While plenty happened during the game, we also got a funny moment after the whistle when Confetti came flying down at one point after the puck hit the scoreboard. I cover that and everything else in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. First hit was completly OK and I dont understand how Larsson can twist like that head first. Situation was definetly dangerous but its partialy his fault.

  2. First hit: 100% boarding call – no need to leave your feet following through on a hit like that.
Second hit: Inexcusable at any level of hockey. This should be a 3 game suspension, Dunn was literally in a position where he could have been paralyzed.

  3. hate to say it but that hit would have been 5 and a game if it was at anytime other than a few seconds in… I think the refs were not in the rhythm and missed it… really not an excuse but a potential reality of the situation…

  4. This scenario is such a simple one. It weighs 70% on the NHL to enforce stricter penalties for players doing this stuff suspend them multiple games for each case (I.E 2 separate potential suspensions in that game). The other 30% lies in the NHLPA to stop appealing this crap. If not, all that will result is retaliation. Whether they go directly after posposil and give him an eye for an eye, or go after his teammates as a response. I think this sort of childish retaliation is what we should be trying to get rid of though. And yes – everyone will say 'but thats the NHLPA job' and that of course they're going to appeal the suspension, they represent the players.. but why? They also represent the players on the other end, being shoved head first into the boards.

  5. He’s not a fighter, he’s an agitator. It’s his job to frustrate the other team with solid hits, NOT to drop the gloves. Which is exactly what he did. Last hit was not dirty, he wasn’t even going very fast, he didn’t hit him very hard, he didn’t speed up, and you can see him expecting Dunn to have turned to the side by the time he got there, which Dunn SHOULD have done. It was a clean and well intentioned hit. No major, no review, no suspension.

    Double minor at most.

  6. The first one was questionable position wise. The second wasnt. Saying you dont want to fight because of concussions but running around giving people concussions is a ridiculous excuse

  7. 5:29 I think you're kind of missing half the story here as well.. This is now not 'a bad position', my theory is it's now considered a 'safe' position mentally in these players heads. Why? Since now it is against the rules to hit someone in this position, if they do would be heavily penalized with further suspensions on top. So their only option to play the guy is to slow themselves down and push them up against the boards and force a board battle. Sure it may not be the best play for the puck carrier, but I think this 4-5 feet away from the board position is being used intentionally now. They don't want to get too close to the boards so they can't be hit legally, and they don't want to be too far from the boards so the hit will be open ice and not result in head into boards. It's a very risky thing to do.. given people like pospisil willing to through the rules to the wind. I think this is also why we are suddenly seeing so much of this exactly as they are trying to 'get it out of the game'. Players are using this position more than ever now, given the defender the bad option of taking longer to slow themselves before engaging, or attempting to come around the side which would probably result in getting dangled. Or the other option of just saying 'f it' and going all in on the hit and taking the penalty and possible suspension.
Edit: just to note – I missed you mention '2 feet' in the video. This could have just been a mistake, but i mean, it's pretty clearly further then 2 feet. I feel i may be even underestimating with the 4-5 feet

  8. It's hockey keep your head up and protect yourself. Don't be a sissy if you don't want it your gonna ruin hockey. Go watch soccer or basketball lol

  9. First hit was completely fine. If anything Larsson shouldn't have been 3 feet from the boards while taking his time to pass the puck. Chris Tanev would NEVER have put himself in that position. However Pospisil should definitely get a 5 game suspension for his hit on Dunn. No player should have to fight after a clean hit especially when they get jumped by another guy, the league needs to crack down on those types of 'muggings' like what Kartye did. There is no need for that type of thing, take his number, find his dumb little tinted visor and nail him while he skates down the wing.

  10. So sick of players not defending themselves along the wall, were the hits good no but cmon stop standing 2 feet from the fall facing away from the play with the puck expecting to be off limits from contact

  11. I was watching this live, it was genuinely one of the most insane hockey games I've seen in a really long time. Pospisil deserves more than that 5 minute major, those hits he was throwing were deliberate and dangerous. I hope we see the league respond to this appropriately. It's just unacceptable!

  12. I don't have a problem with those hits. Todays NHL you said? So all a guy needs to do is keep his back to you at a sticks distance from the boards? Protect yourself at all times first. Its a weak position to put yourself into in the first place. I do have a problem with not coming out for the bell after the fact. If you wanna play that game you got to answer the bell.

  13. Players also need to learn to protect themselves though. Both hits could have been taken and handled very differently

  14. Absolutely loved Kartye and Matty trying to make gim answer for his crimes. Kartye has done it a few times already this year, but when you see Matty that heated you KNOW you really fucked up something fierce

  15. as a seattle fan, you can’t just stand head down facing the boards, bad hit but learn to put yourself in a hood position, my dad used to say if you get hit bad it’s their fault they get the penalty you get hurt it’s your fault

  16. The second hit was a dirty hit but I'm more pissed at Larsson swinging his feet at neck height on the first hit.

  17. Stupid play. That hit was dumb. Lapse of judgement. Nonetheless, deserves a ban and fine. If you act stupid, you should pay the fine

  18. He laid a couple dirty hits so what he plays on the edge it's gonna happen he doesn't run around doing this every game he doesn't need to fight if he doesn't want to he isn't an overall dirty player

  19. i mean if hes had 6 concussions i think its pretty understandable to not want to fight. hitting is legal, fighting is a penalty he's allowed to throw his body and not fight.

  20. Trying to be the Scott stevens of this generation but a complete wuss when someone hits him back

  21. The guy running around with 6 concussions trying to give others a concussion…. and not having the balls to answer for being a rat…

Give him 5 games and send him for a head scan, clearly the concussions have done major damage already.

Ugh and I am a flames fan… but there is no room in the game for this kind of slimy garbage

  22. Not to make excuses, but if the refs had done their job and given a five minute major on the Larsson hit, maybe that pos wouldn’t have done the exact same thing later that same game to Dunn.

What a coward. If you have concussion problems, retire. Or maybe don’t be an absolute a$$hole

  23. As Dunn could not go tonight, I will hope for 5 games. Also, give the ref a talking-to for missing the first boarding call. They also gave a tripping call in the 3rd period that was not even close to being a tripping call. This was a game that the refs did not step in and control very well.
