But everything else save for the NMCs (new Muskoka five?) are on the table?

Personally I don’t think Minten should be untouchable. He doesn’t seem particularly high ceiling to me. I get we’ll need ELC players soon, but that hardly necessitates untouchable status. What am I missing?

Side note but does anyone in the journaling world know the rules about writing about other people’s reports?

Like I always see David retweeting and posting articles where they take someone else’s information or report and write an article about it.

Like yes they credit the original person but this is a report by Friedman that he gave the information about and they’re now writing an article about it and using it for there personal gain instead of writing something original or finding information themselves.

Nothing against them just curious about the optics.

I’m guessing the leafs need cheap options for forwards in the next few years as most of their money will be tied up with the big 3. Assuming Tavares is gone and more money goes to towards goaltending and defense

You won’t get much if you aren’t willing to pay much

  5. mattfromjoisey

Trading Cowan would be the biggest L this team could possibly make

Also notice that Robertson isn’t mentioned

  6. KlaasicCheese

Who gives a fuck trade whoever you need for the right player at the right time. FFS

  7. I’d love for the Leafs to be sellers. Maybe it would spark something for everyone who can’t be moved? Maybe in Bizarro Leafs world, they’d end up going all the way.

Good, if this team continues to underperform in the playoffs we won’t want a 10 year rebuild. Keep these guys, a 1-4 defence man on a long term contract isn’t available. Get Dumba for a 2nd and a bucket of pucks and give it a go with the boys we have.

  9. Sea_Stock2326

More the reason the team needs some cheap skill up front

I was fine doing this with Knies (as I thought he was a *very* good prospect and wanted him with this forward group ASAP). I think similarly with Cowan, but not with Minten – just my personal assessment

Imo they can’t protect all three as we’ve already lost value with trying to half-develop Robertson to meh success. I don’t think the leafs can really even use all 3 (plus Robertson?) by the time we’ll know they are successful NHLers – they need to make a choice about who they truly think will be impactful/great in the future and cut someone else out at some point

  11. Rowdy_Roddy96

Niemela and Robo should be the two dealt if they were going to do so for an defensive upgrade

So we aren’t trading and core pieces and aren’t trading and young dudes so who & what the fuck are other teams going to trade for? LOL leafs don’t want to part with players other teams are asking for, go figure. Just a vicious cycle. We need to improve the team but not trade any asset to acquire another asset to improve the club, makes sense.

“Can we have McDonald’s? No we have Nick Robertson at home”

  14. No-Aspect-4304

Why does this sub have such a hard on for a big trade and trading Robertson ? Honestly neither looks like a good option to me

  15. aburgess11

I would think Minten would be the only one available for the right price. Def not Cowan, Robertson or Knies

  16. Steppyjim

Gotta give to get. If you ain’t gonna trade your prospects, you’re not getting anything that will move the needle.

I KNOW this team isn’t what it was previous years but you have Matthews having a Selanne type year. You have no picks of substance the next two years. The prospect pool is already barren. Now isn’t the time to be shy and modest. The leafs are fucked once this core run is over. That’s gonna happen. But while the window is open you HAVE to jump through it.

At least consider moving a prospect for someone with term if you don’t want a rental but you have to pay to play the game here man. Dubas was roasted for trying to get low value glue guys and it not working. Go get someone!

  17. Acrobatic_Law5598

Knies is going to be incredible in the coming years. Great asset to have.

  18. The_Quackening

Minten i think you could trade if we ended up getting a dman for a few years rather than a rental.

But theres no way the leafs should even think of trading knies, we need him long term.

  19. Sounds about right. I think Tre makes big moves in the off-season when he has more cap flexibility.

  20. OptimusReims34

The only way I would trade one of those guys is if it was for a legitimate top pair RD with term and I dont think any of the names out there for RD, like parayko, would be worth one of those 3

  21. Le8ronJames

Yea wouldn’t make sense for you guys. Most teams have talent but lacking future. You guys are lucky enough to have both. Although, trading 1 of the 3 for REAL defensive help could be worth it.

  22. Letterkenny_Irish

I dunno.. we aren’t going to get anything major without giving up something either.

I wouldn’t give up knies because he’s proven he can hang (needs some more time but I don’t think he’s anywhere near his ceiling yet).

Cowan I don’t know a ton about other than he’s basically a blue chip prospect and killing in the OHL. I’m sure that there’s a high probability that his skills will transfer to the NHL, but it’s not a guarantee.

Cowan’s yet another forward. We seriously need an upgrade on D TODAY.

Rasmus Anderson is RHD, and is signed for the 25/26 season, so not a rental, and a legit top 4 D.

How long until Cowan gets a legitimate lengthened shot at the NHL? 2/3 seasons from now? That’s half/most of the way through Matthews next contract.

Not saying every player has to be involved, but would some kinda combo between our 1st/Cowan/minten/Robertson be worth it for a guy like Anderson? I haven’t heard much about Anderson being on the trade list but like every hockey pundit says.. every GM has a price.

I’m not committed to the idea… Just thinking out loud.

There’s also the issue of cap space which may make this idea impossible anyway. Just feel that front office needs to focus heavily on D the next couple seasons, we have the talent up front, our D is pretty rough compared to other current contenders.

  23. shanster925

Good. I’d rather they didn’t trade anyone than trade one of those three.

  24. Negative_Pea_1974

LOL@ Facebook article was telling me Robertson asked for a trade yesterday

  25. T-A-C-K-K

I’m very glad about this! Our best prospects

  26. brobourne

I don’t think Minten should be included in this. Cowan and Knies have obvious top 6 upside. Minten just isn’t on their level. Gotta give up quality players to get quality players in return.

  27. Of course they’re saying no to them. If you were being offered crap players, you’d say no too.
