Well, no huge surprises there. It felt unlikely Guentzel would be dealt within the division, and the cost for Buch seems high for our FO. I guess we’ll just have to sit here and see what happens all the same!

My guess is that the most likely outcome is that we go to the playoffs with the current team (perhaps plus another role player like Comtois that will stay in the AHL but be available in case of injuries), then hope that the teams that loaded up have issues with the new guys fitting in and contributing (which happens) or injuries or just hit a slump at playoff time while our guys are at the top of their game.

Mostly just taking this as soft confirmation Guentzel isn’t happening. As negotiation tactics go, signaling you’re willing to walk away with no deal doesn’t really work if the other party has several other compelling offers on the table.
