Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Thursday that the team has acquired forward Jacob Perreault from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Jan Mysak.
Perreault, a Montreal, QC native, has tallied seven goals and added 11 assists, while serving 44 penalty minutes in 31 games with the San Diego Gulls in the American Hockey League this season.
Since making his AHL debut in 2020-21, Perreault has registered 91 points (32G, 59A) in 161 appearances. The 21-year-old right winger played his first – and only – NHL game with the Ducks on Jan. 8, 2022 against the New York Rangers.
Perreault was selected by the Ducks in the first round (27th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. He is the son of the former Canadiens player Yanic Perreault, who played in Montreal from 2001 to 2004.

Not the Anaheim Ducks trade I wanted to see but can’t be too mad about acquiring a p’tit gars de chez nous

I let that one writer from the Athletic over hype up Mysak for me lol. Bummer he never panned out but that’s just the reality for most prospects.
Anyone know anything about this Perreault fella?

Honestly gonna miss Mysak. I know he didn’t pan out for us but I always liked him

2 things.
1. Is this good? 2. Anaheim just acquired Mysak in a trade. 3. Is having Perreault better then having childish jokes

Well we traded pick 48 in the 2020 draft for pick 27. Guess that’s something? Kind of a nothing burger for me tbh but both guys are 21 so you never know. Never against acquiring some hometown talent.

Would be better if he was 2019 first round pick instead of 2020 🤣

On a serious note, I don’t know how I feel about the trade

Pretty meh trade but I feel like Perreault still has higher upside than Mysak at this point. Will he reach it though? Who knows.

Perreault : 5′-11” 192lbs 21yo 18pts in 31 games, 27th overall in 2020
Mysak : 5′-11” 183lbs 21yo 20pts in 48 games, 48th overall in 2020
Both guys are underperforming prospect so it seem like a let’s exchange our problems and see if it’s better kind of deal. In addition, this move could be about rebalancing the roster in Laval. The only right shoot forwards in the Rockets are Stephens and Légaré.

Edit: maybe Zegras trade fell through

Somehow I feel that this trade is to keep Joshua Roy in Montreal rather than ship him to Laval on Friday. I remember there being some hype around Perreault when he was drafted, and not just from Montreal. Hughes likes these low cost gambles and I’m all for it. I had written off Mysak a while back.

Mysak never really found his game in Laval. Guys who are OK at everything but don’t have one major skill take more time to develop, if they ever do.
I’m thinking getting Perreault for the Laval playoffs push is a bit of an insurance policy if Joshua Roy stays in Montreal. Laval needed a PP trigger, and Perreault was always a good shooter.
All in all, it’s just two teams swapping AHLers who needed a change of scenery.

Seeing as mysak seemed to have stalled out at ahl 4th line center I’m not too bummed about losing him to be honest. I was really hyped after his world juniors numbers a couple years ago but excited for perreault if he can turn into something.

Move over Yanic, Bob and Mathieu, there’s a new Perreault in town.

Who remembers when Michel Therrien sent out winger Bill Lindsay to take a faceoff in playoff OT over faceoff king Yanic Perreault in the 2002 playoffs?
Lindsay lost the draw & the Canes immediately scored off the faceoff to tie the series at 2. The Habs lost the series 4-2.
