Zdeno Chara Reminisces about Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup “We did it together” | Bruins Interview
Yeah I mean a lot of them I haven’t seen for for for a long time so it’s nice to kind of revisit and and and um you know spend some time together and talk about the the lives and uh the adjustments and all the stuff that we we went through I
Guess uh since we start playing hockey so um I mean it’s a it’s a special special event um and special to see uh everyone you know we we been through a lot and uh and we have some very special you know memories together so um those are always uh Great Moments how
Difficult is it for a player to adjust to retirement and have that big change take place in their lives what have you done to kind of you know deal with that Well everybody’s different I I don’t know what U there’s like a you know one kind of recipe for for everybody but
Everybody deal deals with uh with U I guess the retirement differently uh I try to stay busy start try to be obviously more involved with uh with my family and having fun uh um with my kids and and activities so yeah it’s been good it’s been busy what like just
Having everybody back in this building back in the locker room all the going through Memory Lane yeah like I said it’s a lot of fun um it’s special you know like um that’s what you know when you when you went together you you connected uh you bond together for for
Rest of the um you our lives and uh you know seeing everyone it’s just uh it’s a lot of a lot of those memories coming back what is that what’s going to be your message to the guys just the current group chasing the cup uh I think they have enough
Uh personnel and coaching staff to to give them the guidance um you know they they obviously been uh having great years uh you know rebuilding and and adding more um more players and you know they’re doing great so wishing them all the best the big like the young guy uh
Again being around you guys what what do you make of his Evolution now that he’s you know taking on the sea here Brad oh Brad yeah I mean he’s uh obviously um continuing um carrying the culture and um it’s uh it’s great to see you know
It’s something we took a lot of Pride to to build and I’m just happy to see that still carry on what’s the single biggest thing you miss most fin thanks wal trying to talk what’s the single biggest thing you miss just about playing now that you’re a few years into retirement
When you think about it um I think that obviously being with the guys um you know I think that um you know you’re going you’re going through a lot um you know during your career there are some UPS there are some downs but to have your teammates um
They become more than just the teammates you know to share those moments and those those those tough times to to be able to kind of like go through them together um get to know each other get to know each other’s families and um creating these friendships that’s I
Think that’s something that you you kind of like miss the most that uh you don’t you don’t do that anymore when you when you’re kind of walking away you know you kind of like a little bit away and uh everybody walks you know different direction so um so why when you’re
Playing you you have that every day when you come to the ring you have the friends and and those connections how would you define who the 2011 team was how how would you define who the 2011 team was and what led to the success you guys were able to have uh I
Mean just like I said we built something together uh we held each other um accountable um we loved each other we play hard we practice hard um we cared you know so much about how we played and how we want to be remembered and um you
Know we did it together and U you know took some some challenges took some uh upsets um before we were able to overcome uh some of uh some of those things and and finally you know reach that ultimate goal but you know I think that um we all
Realized that um we needed each other to accomplish
BOSTON — Zdeno Chara and several other members of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Bruins gathered at TD Garden on Thursday ahead of tonight’s final “Eras” celebration held in conjunction with the team’s Centennial season.
Chara talked about how special that 2011 team was and why they were able to win it all.
“We built something together. We held each other accountable. We loved each other, we played hard, we practiced hard, we cared so much about how we played and how we wanted to be remembered. And we did it together,” said Chara. “It took some challenges, it some upsets before we were able to overcome some of those things and we finally reached (our goal). But I think that we all realized that we need each other to accomplish it.”
