Five years to get to this roster and the trajectory is a great accomplishment. You act like the others teams sat down and watched once Yzerman came back to Detroit. We are even and moving up from where Tampa is and they are moving down. Trajectory is what you need to look at and there will be value in getting this group to have a taste of the playoffs. Should be good for 10 plus years from here.
Before the season started, Wings had poor odds of making the playoffs and neither Yzerman nor Lalonde predicted any different. This team has overacheived. In 18 of the past 23 games Wings were outscored in 5v5 but they won 16 or 17 of those. Somehow they have managed to have great success, but it should come as no surprise if the Red Wings lose a 4 point lead on the wildcard race. I love the Wings but the fact is that falling just short of the plaoffs is a reasonable outcome and should not be seen as a total failure. This team has major holes to fill before they can be considered very good. By that, I mean they are a good team but they have to improve at least the defense before they will become a great team.
