They won’t this season because they can no longer retain. They should have negotiated for someone to retain on Carrick. It’d only cost a 6th or 7th to get them to retain the $425k.
What this likely points to is that Verbeek had no intention to trade Vatrano. My guess is we’re mostly done.

There is no real need or urgency to trade Vatrano at this time, he’s not on an expiring contract. If they wish to move him they can do it in the offseason. Kaako or Gooddrow aren’t upgrades so the Rangers would need to offer draft picks as well. It all sounds a bit too rich or wishful for Rangers fans. The Ducks without salary retention available makes a trade more complicated and Verbeek isn’t going to let Vatrano go at a loss. But you never know. I think the ducks are basically done for the trade deadline as most of the contenders are set on goaltending.
