the price tag might have been higher for vancouver. it wasn't reported on very much but tom fitzgerald worked under rutherford at pittsburgh and they may have some history leading up to him going to new jersey.

The problem with Vancouver & Toffoli was not the price, it was the cap hit. They have no room unless another player (for similar money) went back to Winnipeg. Obviously the Jets didn't want to do that.
