No more trades! | Oilersnation Everyday with Tyler Yaremchuk March 8

The NHL trade deadline has come and gone. The Edmonton Oilers didn’t make any deals today but managed to bring in Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick from the Anaheim Ducks and also Troy Stetcher from the Arizona Coyotes, without moving out any players.

What did you think of the deals that Ken Holland made? Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin will go live on the Oilersnation YouTube channel for Oilersnation Everyday. They want to hear from you. Leave your questions, comments and concerns in the Charm Diamond Centres YouTube live chat.

The Oilers may not have been busy today but many other teams around the NHL made deals, including the Vegas Golden Knights. Somehow, the Golden Knights managed to acquire Tomas Hertl from the San Jose Sharks, who still has six years left on deal. The Sharks also retained 17% of his contract, despite the remaining years.

Also happening before the deadline, Jordan Eberle resigned with the Seattle Kraken, Matt Dumba moved to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Winnipeg Jets added Tyler Toffoli to an already juiced forward group. Perhaps what was more interesting than what did happen on deadline day was what didn’t happen. The Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings almost linked up on a massive blockbuster that just didn’t quite get to the finish line according to our insider Frank Seravalli and teams like the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, and Dallas Stars didn’t make any additional moves on deadline day.

The Oilers stood pat on deadline day and considering what other teams in the Western Conference did accomplish, that feels underwhelming. Tyler and Liam broke that down and heard from the fans as they went deep into the Charm Diamond Centres YouTube Chat to let Oilers fans let out their frustrations with not just the Oilers lack of moves today but also the Golden Knights continued shenanigans.

  1. The thing that ruined it for me was the Toffoli trade; why couldn't we get that guy? Double retention & move a healthy scratch player and the cap works. The way Ken spoke it just comes across like he felt he had done enough going into today, but you can never be complacent when you have the best player in the league. Just feels like a step back from last years deadline, when we should be going for it even harder this year. Big fan of Henrique though

  2. LAst year it was Bjugstad… this year Henrique (34 years old)~ has the rest of this team turned the corner ~ are they too soft still??? CAn they defend better and score dirty goals in playoff hockey environments?? That's the nuts and bolts of it IMO. You can't look at the regular season with this team ~ playoff hockey doesn't suit their pretty offense. A juggernaut they are NOT in the playoffs … But fingers crossed.

  3. I agree with tyler. I was waiting for the shoe to drop and me to yell "hell yes" instead kenny sat their and did nothing

  4. Holland gets 3/10. The reason these moves are a failure is not because the players aren't good (they are). The problem is, we have an extremely narrow window (this year and next) to contend for a cup and we are only doing enough to keep up where we are at. This shows his consistent lack of urgency which I would argue has defined his tenure. And keep in mind, it's going to take more than one run to win the cup. We need to be making moves to do BETTER than we have been because what we have been doing hasn't been good enough. If Ken had come into the presser and said "we tried to add but got outbid" I would have an easier time accepting that. But the fact that Holland said he's happy with the team we have and didn't want to disrupt the chemistry shows me he is comfortable not going for the cup and is therefore not the GM for us. The cup winners are the ones that put themselves into the best position repeatedly in order to give themselves the most opportunities to win if the bounces go their way.
