He is a important player
I don't agree with the sentiment that Savard is worth more than Matheson.. Savard is a great player but he's not even playing on our top line.. that could be because St. Louis wants to spread the Veteran presence across two lines to provide more stability, or it could be that Savard just isn't good enough to be a top pairing Defensemen.. ether way the season is over, I don't see him on the team in 3 years, and because of that if a 1st round pick was offered, I'd take it.
The Habs MUST trade Savard. His stock will never be higher and we need a forward Marty can develop so we can be better quicker. Sure everyone likes him, but we have too many D and he has already imparted his knowledge to others. Trade him to the Devils and another if needed for Alexander Holtz. Ruff isn't interested in Holtz as noted by his ice time. DO IT NOW!!!
How do we get better if we don't make a trade. Nobody wants Anderson, Armia, Gallagher, Dvorak or Allen. That leaves you with no trades if we listen to you. I don't want to hear about his influence any more. Of course he's a great influence and wants to stay here, but as I said before NOW is the time to get the most for him. Perhaps what we really need is a DEFENSIVE coach who knows the power play enough to tell his players to not just pass around the perimeter but SHOOT THE DANG PUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There habs need to trade and get the most they can from players like Savard Matheson and Anderson now. They won't be on the team in a few years. get picks now
Savard is -48 in the last 3 seasons. You consider that good?
I would keep savard over matheson if we plan to have Hutson on the team.
I agree with coach, but I agree with Hughes and MSL the most. They know what we have and the ability to replace.
Absolutely keep Savard. Player- coach on the bench but most importantly on ice.
I don't like hearing people say that players are "not the future of a team?"

of course they are the future of the team – they're a part of something that's being built – not be tossed in a dumpster
Savard is absolutely contributing to the future of this team, and they need more players like him.
It would actually be a rebuild if they brought some outside fresh perspective in, but MSL is not going to lace up anytime soon, so players like savard have major value. They can't buy that hockey vision.
Every time somebody drops that – "he's not the future Montreal" I'm going to call it out because that's been so overused and it's gotten too disrespectful.

We're talking about human athletes here. Their life dreams and goals – please stop treating them like a piece of used tissue ready to be thrown out at any time.
I think GM's and coaches get that more than fans.

No future with Savard at 33 yrs. and not worth the money. Rarely completes a season and is a minus player. Lots of D left.
I would be happy if Savard completed his career with Montreal on a friendly deal for another year or two to help our rookie defense, as well as Hutson, Mailloux, Reinbacher. I feel like Savard has plenty of gas left in the tank to stick around a little longer
Its not just a bit of value that we get in return for him, but it could also mean the difference between getting a 5th pick or a 7th
