NJ Devils TRADE Vitek Vanecek to the San Jose Sharks For Goaltender Kaapo Kähkönen! This is the first time I’ve seen a team get not one, but 2 goalies and the New Jersey Devils Get 2 Goalies on Trade Deadline Day!
This means the Devils will have a tandem of Kähkönen & newly acquired Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens to close out the remainder of this season. This gives Nico Daws and Akira Schmid time to develop in the AHL with the Utica Comets and the Devils with a more NHL 1 two punch of goalies to close out this year.
This doesn’t mean the Devils won’t still look in the offseason to try and acquire Calgary Flames Jakob Markstrom or Boston Bruins Linus Ullmark as those two big name netminders may headline the NHL trade rumors for Goaltenders in the offseason.

Very happy! To be able to offload Vitek's contract given the season he's had and is still injured is a miracle! Go look at Kähkönen's goals above expected per 60 & compare that to Vitek's. He's a much better option than what we currently had in our stable. Fitzgerald said he's not done. He talked about "Big game hunting" in the offseason.
I have a strong fondness for Vitek from last season but this was a solid move. I hope Kappo comes in with something to prove for the last games of this season.
Fitz suggested Daws will take Allen's place "until he gets the rust off" or something
These are both good moves for setting up the offseason deals. Honestly, I actually feel a lot better now that these moves have been made because it shows an actual direction and focus on what Fitzgerald will be pursuing, rather than being in the dark and not knowing if there will be anything done to address the issues of goaltending and defense. Whatever happens for the rest of this season, at least we know work will be getting done moving forward.
Is shipping Blackwood and V to the Sharks the equivalent of sending them to a Goalie Golag in Siberia? Are we USSR? Are we the baddies?
I like what they did today.. I give him a B+. Like you said adding a #1 goalie and bulk up and down the lineup is on the summer to do list for Fitz. I have Faith in him.
I like this trade..Fitz is hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with one of them. I'm glad he didn't trade away the future for a goalie..
Did like hearing Fitzy after saying these trades open up the summer.. good trade wit SJ again.. get rid of VV contract was the biggest take away..

Day started rough. Wishing Toffoli and Miller the best. They both did good for this team and deserve to be on a playoff team atm for everything they have done. Definitely would like to see Hatakka and Nolan Foote get another chance in the lineup. It would be amazing to see this team pull a shocker and get into the post-season, but it's going to be a very steep hill to climb. Glad to get Kahkonen and free up some extra cap space for the off-season. There is a part of me that would like to see Vanecek bounce back after doing well last season. Let's see how the remaining games go and build from there.
I was upset with Allen but Kahkonen really has the potential to be an excellent goalie.
Kak can be like he was in min. we need to upgrade defense, and maybe a forward C. i like KAK as out main goalie! LGD!
well, Kahkonen was in Sharks.. so he cant win matches alone..
Vanecek & Blackwood are the goalie tandem in San Jose, just like they were with the Devils for part of last season.
Overall, the trades they made yesterday was meh.
