Claude Julien, Andrew Ference Reminisce On Bruins’ 2011 Stanley Cup

[Applause] welcome to the second intermission report brought to you by your New England Ford dealers CL Julian hosting hoisting the Stanley Cup 1 was it really 13 years ago my goodness honoring the 2011 team in a pregame ceremony Andrew fence and Company they were on duckboats here at the Garden tonight before they

Came out onto the ice and we are happy to be joined by coach Julian and Andrew F how is it being back on the duck man that was that was incredible what a first class operation come back to reception like that that was pretty special I know you guys had an event

Last night we got to relive some memories the queue the memories podcast which you can catch right now uh how fun was it to sort of go down memory lane oh it was great and not only go down memory lane but even for me as a coach I

Learned so much from know Andrew and and Bergie talking about what was going on inside that dress room as well like some of the little things they did on their own are pretty impressive I want to know when you’re watching the game from up here you’re

Standing next to they by the way you guys are lucky they scored a couple of goals in the air as a coach you how do you are you watching it differently now do you still break it down in your head and what do you think so far of the Bruins especially their structure

Defensively well you know you’re right once a coach always a coach I I watch games even on TV and I’m looking at the structure and I’m looking at you know where the mistakes are made and then you know whether the weaknesses you know in the dzone offensive zone whatever it is

You always unfortunately I have a hard time just watching the game and enjoying it it’s it’s ingrained in in us and uh it’s hard to get rid of yeah I really I don’t know they got a chocolate cake up in the suite I’ve been eating that I’ve been watching the

Physicality we not watching the for check no and uh the other thing too to me coach you that you were the guys we talk about defensive structure when you brought it around and the culture started turning and then even after you left coach Cassy came in now Coach

Montgomery they all go back to the defensive system that you started here and I think it’s what’s made this organization so successful well you know it’s always obviously uh nice to hear those kind of uh you know compliments and all that stuff and you know when I

Came in here and I remember you know the Bruns struggling to make the playoffs you know and and really wanted to bring a cup back to to Boston and uh I knew there was a lot of work to do but at the end of the day a coach can do so much

And and you hope you did enough but the players themselves that we had the character like you know I talk about winning a Stanley Cup the uh the number of leaders in that room far surpass any team I ever had and uh it it did didn’t

Matter about whether you were you know a top goal scorer or that you know Sean thoron was a leader in that dress room and he you know playing on the fourth line we had such great great character guys so you know came in here we wanted

To be a hard team to play against and that was our motto we didn’t we didn’t want teams to feel comfortable playing against against us and that’s what happened and uh right now same thing you know with the Bruins it’s not always about physicality but it’s about you

Know making it hard for them to get to a net and score some goals Andrew uh you had a a moment in time for Bruins fans in Montreal during your did you have was a wardrobe Al it was a w I don’t know if we’re think we’re going to play but

What’ you do with a certain piece did you keep that glove you know I’ve never I’ve never thought of asking that did you keep it it was a funny story I had a really good friend he was a cop here actually served over in Afghanistan and

Lucky enough he’s a huge brunes fan um so he he he was unlucky enough to be deployed right during our cup run and so he missed the whole thing but like watched from the base and he would send me updates and all stuff and so I actually shipped the glove over to him

In perfect form and so he was on base in Afghanistan and opened up the package he just dying over there and so he’s he got the glove you know in perfect form he didn’t he didn’t have to draw a picture did he we knew exactly what he was talking about Barry was talking

About this earlier with a couple of other guests we had on set you know you haven’t seen some of these guys in years but when you see them it’s like like it was yesterday in a lot of ways I’m sure right everybody looks pretty good too you know guys are actually taking care

Of themselves but you know we have a group chat you stay in touch um obviously it’s easier that way but you know it’s it’s it’s good to get caught up yesterday just sharing stories and all the stories get bigger and we’re all better than we used to be and and but

But it’s it’s really nice you know I think it’s just like I said obviously for the organization to bring us all back and treat us so well and you know they’re feeding us and taking us down to the locker room today and I mean I remember sitting in the locker room and

You know Bobby or would come in and like you know and great work and like wow these guys did so much for this city and like you know I’m not Bobby or but we did something for this city you know it’s fun to be part of

That Legacy now oh it’s been a special season certainly special tonight to see you guys out on the ice recogniz for that 2011 Stanley Cup run we appreciate your time here as well thank you for the Memories for appr it thank you very much
