Pat Maroon on Trade to Bruins: “It’s gonna be fun. I feel like I’m hated here”

Pat Maroon on Trade to Bruins: “It’s gonna be fun. I feel like I’m hated here”

Past 24 hours then for you and how excited are you to be here for the bars yeah it’s been crazy um first I want to thank Billy Garen and the Minnesota Wild um great organization and uh I want to thank Don swy for giving me an opportunity to come play and put this

Jersey on uh I’m super excited um I’m ready to get started and uh it’s going to be fun Pat where are you when your your rehab uh just going to talk to medical staff see see where that goes uh but right now there’s no real time frame

Right now all I can give you is I’m sking a little bit been through a lot of battles with these guys how strange was it when you got the call that this was the team you were com to yeah I feel like I’m hated here um but no I’m I’m super excited um

Like I said original 16 a great opportunity um heard nothing but good things about the locker room and a great opportunities for us to go achieve our goals and accomplish it right so um another chance to play in the playoffs and have a great run here what was I

Like to walk in the locker room and see the captain for the first time I haven’t seen anyone yet so this is you guys are the first people I saw so when I get Sor we’re used to it we’re used to it no but uh yeah absolutely I think uh

Once I see everyone it’s going to be fun and um obviously there’s been a lot of chirps and a lot of fighting uh in the past with these guys so it’s going to be good to be on the other side with these guys now so I’m really looking forward

To it Charlie Co mentioned uh you guys skated a bit over the summer yeah we did yep and uh he was awesome enough to have my son come out with him and uh skate with him so yeah I know Freddy skated with Freddy obviously I’m from St Louis

And Freddy’s from St Louis so uh we got the opportunity to come up here and skate here and work with our skills coach so I already met a handful of guys so I know some guys in outl that I’ve played with in the past too so um it’s

Probably going to be an easy transition so I’m really looking forward to it do you ever cross pass with uh Monty yeah I do in St Louis oh yeah that’s right yep y absolutely I know Bonte really well so I’m really excited to join him and the coach’s staff and you

Know I went to uh camp with Kel so uh it’s going to be fun so familiar faces in that locker room so it’s I feel like it’s going to be a really easy transition for me you certainly know a lot about winning uh what’s going to be like to put on the

The Bruins jersey for the first time gives me chills thinking about it um I’m really looking forward to it this is going to be great um just to put that Jersey over and go out there and I know these fans are very passionate about their you know their sports team so uh

Just really looking forward to put that Jersey on and going out there and playing and uh you know working for the guys um my old high school uh team is the Bron’s color so uh feel like it was meant to be how hard was that uh that

Series against them in 2019 I mean was that one of the toughest series you’ve ever played probably um I would say the first 15 minutes of that game seven game they had us on Hills so um but you know it’s a game of uh adversity and things

That change in time and you know we get a tip in and you know we get that late goal in the second to go to lead but I think they had all the momentum going in game seven I mean they had us on our heels and uh Jordan stepped up but you

Know I think it was both good teams and uh sometimes you need a puck luck and you know good saves and good goal tendent to win you going to be able to be around team while you’re on the road or whatever as you’re rehabbing or or is

What’s your kind of process for getting to get to know these guys as as you’re not being on the I’ll be able to do all that stuff and travel and get to be with the guys so um I’m not that far out that in 18 you went to Jersey at the deadline

There a lot of talk here around the league that you were coming here did you think that was the case then we say that again sorry when you went to Jersey at the deadline in 18 there was a lot of talk here that you would come in here in

The trade did you hear that did you think it was happening then uh this year uh are you talking about this year no 18 when you I don’t know I mean that was kind of a weird one I didn’t really think I was going to get traded that

Year um that was kind of a last minute deadline um call um I found out late like 3:30 um cuz we were in San Jose so um I didn’t know I was getting traded I didn’t think I was going to get traded and uh yeah sometimes it’s just weird

Sometimes things happen did you know you were going to get traded this year before the deadline uh yeah me and Billy talked asked me what I wanted to do and um you know he had plans and he has plans too for his team and he asked me

If I wanted to go to a contender so kudos to him to coming up to me and ask me if you know if you want to go try to win another Stanley Cup and why not you know um that’s the ultimate goal when you leave this game is to win and um put

A stamp on your career so um he gave me that opportunity and he worked hard for me to get give me a chance to you know go on a nice playoff run here

Pat Maroon, upon joining the Bruins, expressed his excitement: “It’s gonna be fun. I feel like I’m hated here, but no, I’m super excited. Being part of an Original Six team is special, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about the locker room. This is a great opportunity for us to achieve our goal and accomplish it.”

  1. I'm personally excited for him to be part of the team, brings a whole lot to the ice so hopefully it'll pay off for both him and the team!

  2. Soiid responses Pat… Never hated… only feared. Welcome to Boston! You're officially one of us now. Now go get um!

  3. I am so excited that the Bruins got him! However, I still hate him! Glad to see he is a Bruin, but give me some time before I cheer for him. ROFL!

  4. It's got to suck when you have a home in the area you've been playing in to be traded and uprooted in 24 hours across the country. I can't imagine players being truly honest about being happy to be traded and forced to move so fast. I'd be like are you/owners paying for the movers?

  5. I’m surprised he’s still in the league really. Can’t skate, can’t shoot and score and he usually gets his butt kicked when he’s fighting.

  6. It's a great first name for being in Boston and the upcoming Feast of St Patrick's Day just 8 days away.
    He should fit right in.
Hat tricks and 3 leaf clovers are the order of the day.

  7. He's not hated it's hockey an emotional sport things happen he seems like a good fit for Boston. Good they got him. Good for them .

  8. Seeing that the Leafs will meet the Bruins in the first round, the the soft Leafs might as well just mail-in the games. LOL

  9. You won't be hated now, Pat! I've been saying since last year that we need, NEED a bruiser. Think O'Reilly, Neely, etc., etc. YAY!

  10. hated as the opposition…but embraced as a teammate. so long as you put in the effort, you will no doubt fit right in.

  11. We need a player like maroon he reminds of lucic who we obviously lost .. we are missing that big tough guy on the 4th line .. and the past few games we have been getting pushed around … when other teams see maroon coming at you they’ll think twice about running Marchand or Pastranak
    – Go Bruins 🏒🥅

  12. Marchand is the one you guys should hate. That line change is what lost the cup for you. Pat had very little to do with that series.
