Pulling the goalie in 3 on 3 overtime, NOT something you see everyday! I could only find 3 examples in NHL history before today. Oilers Canucks on April 7th of 2000, Blue Jackets Kings on March 25th of 2003 and Bruins Kings on October 28th of 2017. However, only the Kings had ever actually won in OT pulling a goalie. Little fact, when you pull a goalie in OT and you loose the game to an empty netter like the first two examples, you not only lose the game but you also lose the extra point you would have had.
Rule: 84.2 A team shall be allowed to pull its goalkeeper in favor of an additional skater in the overtime period. However, should that team lose the game during the time in which the goalkeeper has been removed, it would forfeit the automatic point gained in the tie at the end of regulation
So today, as the Minnesota Wild hosted the Nashville Predators, we saw NHL history! A desperate Wild team pulled Marc Andre Fleury in overtime and WON! It was a crazy game with 2 fights, big saves and of course, the pulling of a goalie in OT. I cover it all in todays NHL video!

Did you know about rule 84.2 before today?
That's Wild!!!
That is a terrible rule
If losing in OT with the goalie pulled means you donât get the extra point, then winning with the goalie pulled should mean you get 2 extra
#changemymind đ
The title says itâs only happened twicep
seems like a tankathon strategy
Not gonna lie, if a team pulls their goalie in over time, both teams should have their extra point wiped. I understand itâs an advantage and it wouldnât really more to much sense for the team who didnât pull theirs to lose a point, but it makes it way more interesting if both extra points get wiped off the board. Think of it as another team putting pressure to make sure another team doesnât get the extra point
As a wild fan I appreciate you calling out the no call shortly after the game tying goal. Classic refs.
This, of course, had to happen in a game featuring two of the only goaltenders who'll wear non-white pads
As soon as they pulled Flower I was thinking… Rule 84.2 could really bite us in the ass…
But thankfully the boyz got it done đŻ
Yes I remember this discussion when three on three ot came in.
Im glad I lost my fantasy this week, eliminating me from the last playoff spot, because I have Saros and Minnesota pulls off a twice in history minuver, awesome.
Couple other cool facts about this game that you may have missed. Minnesota legend Lou Nannie Minnesota legend was present, he just hosted his last MSHSL state tournament and is retiring from broadcasting. This also is the 1000th home game for the Wild needless to say many story lines
Refs are the worst this season
First time visiting, I like your show, im impressed with your hockey knowledge!!! Would you be interested in doing a live podcast with
Locked on Wild as a guest? The show is every Sunday at noon, the show is a
Town Hall forum,,live interactive
My resume, I'm a regular host on
Kfan radio The home for Minnesota Wild , in the spring when things aren't so crazy, looking forward to your reply
Denny from Minnesota
.
I think it also happened in a Pens game back in the early 90s or late 80s. Lemieux either scored or set up a goal on the empty net
They pulled Felix the Cat and lost. Shocker
This guy has no idea how embarrassed he should be.
This guy has no idea how embarrassed he should be.
This guy is seriously pathetic.
3:36 "It wasn't much, but I wanted to get a f—ing penalty against Minnesota."
why is that a rule anyway?
I like those jerseys. Thatâs all I can say. That and Go Flowers!!
Absolutely WILD ending!!! (pun intended of course)
Saros! Not Soros đ
I like the call by Hynes cuz if they lose, it's a sign to bunker down and prepare for the offseason, but since it succeeded, it's a sign to keep fighting and that the season ain't over just yet.
I quit watching hockey after the strike canceled the Stanley Cup last millennium. I've never heard of the Predators or the Wild. I see they still encourage fighting. They don't fight in Pee Wee, nor in high school, nor in college. But, in the pro's, they act more like children. It's a great sport, but the fights are awful. Save it for the bedroom, boys.
I wish those were the wilds jerseys full time
Soros? đ People struggling with Finnish names is funny.
Didnât know about that makes sense tho
Imagine if the wild beat the golden knights for the last wild card spot to get to the playoffs. I would pop champagne, and I hate champagne.
This happens a lot in KHL
That's a cool story
I think lots of people would root for Flower
Scripts good nowadaysđ„đ„
Wild should scrap the Wild name and just call themselves Minnesota and put the image of the state as a logo and keep their green uniforms all the time.
Makes sense since the advantage is so much more significant.
That was cool. I didn't know that you would lose your point for the tie if you pulled your goalie in OT. I hope we see more of this in other games as we getting closer to the playoffs.
this move shall be called – to pull a Fedorov :))
If there is a goal after pulling the goalie, the other team should lose automatic point too. Just to make it fair and more exciting.
The wild sweaters r sooooo beautiful†especially with the state of Minnesota on their shoulder đ
that was wild
Thatâs wild
The pop off from Fleury on the bench is just golden
I believe the Wild sit with about a 20% chance to make the playoffs. Not great, but definitley better than a "snowball's chance in hell." lol
