It's crazy that we went form the Sedin's making $6 million a year around 2011 to $12 million a year just 13 years later. Just crazy. And also too bad that the individual players want to get paid the big bucks instead of being sold on taking less so they can bring in or keep more and better talented players to chase the cup.
So very wrong Rick, Demko is worth 7.5M a season at most if he keeps up his current level until he's UFA. He hasn't yet reached the level of Helleybuyck, Vasilevksiy, Shesterkin, Sorokin, or even Ullmark when all those guys have been at their peak
Ah, the cost of attending a professional sport event. Notice I didn't say game? The hockey (or other sports) game we went to see in the "good old days" is now event and hockey is only part of the event. For a number of reasons, stop blaming player salary. In the 70s, players still worked at a different job in the summer. We are talking about a group of people whose unique, elite-level skills drew tens and hundreds of thousands people if not more to pay attention to the game. Back then, the owners kept all the money. When the players organized, especially after Eagleson, owners have to find other means to keep their share of the profits, TV deals, which the NHL is far behind of the other three major team sports and that's why they hired Bettman, naming rights, and, yes, high cost to attend games (and not just the ticket prices). For this to be more palatable, they added other things besides the game, like intermission shows, giveaways, etc. As a consumer, you need to decide whether these are worth it. But as we all know, hockey is king in Canada (like football in the US). When there is demand and you are the only one providing it, you pay it. This is not to belittle the youth, amateur, minor leagues but there it is.
So tell me how a couple who are retired, how they can afford to go to any game these days. 48 years ago, I brought 25 games off a season off a season ticket holder. For 2 seats cost me 150 bucks. So with parking at the PNE all in maybe 250 for 25 games. Now one person would have a hard time going for 250 bucks to 1 game.
Growing up in E Van in the 80s, Safeway had a deal sometimes… Spend 20 bucks on groceries and they'd sell you two upper bowl seats for 20 bucks. Families of humble means could afford to take in a game back in the day.

It's absurd. But they know people will pay
20% increase is rough. My quarter season tickets went up $3-400
Sitting at the ice at an AHL game is better than NHL upper bowl.
I liked the led lights
