John Shannon on Hronek’s next contract, Allvin’s confidence, no Demko, Oilers’ pursuit of Canucks

John Shannon, the former executive producer of Hockey Night in Canada, joins the show to discuss what Patrik Allvin didn’t do at the deadline and how confident the GM is about his hockey club. We then discuss if the Canucks can withstand no Thatcher Demko in the crease, Filip Hronek’s next contract and the Edmonton Oilers chasing down the Canucks for the top spot in the Pacific.

  1. The Devon Toews contract is more than fair.

That is basically what his role is to this team.

7.25 with a lot of term

  2. 6mil maybe 6.5 at most have like 4 others to resign. Hes not going to nake more then hughes but i think playing for a cup contending team with managment that cares should incentives to take less for the team

  3. Podcasters seem to encourage ideas like ā€˜Lindholm is going to be offended.ā€™ That was never more than an outside view.

Itā€™s not ironic at all that Lindholm might be playing better. Imagine the podcaster who took the long view that Lindholm would find his way during the generous run up to the playoffs. And that Lindholm might not be so much an obvious player as an effective one.

  4. The Bruins would never trade for Lindholm when they can sign him as a FA. Let's give DeSmith some credit. Subtract the Minnesota game and he has been stellar.

  5. I knew 90 days ago they would burn Dempko out or exhaust him either literally or by injury .bad timing

  6. No one should criticize the Canucks look at where they're now as opposed to last year this time! Management has done an amazing job, give credit where it's due Hronek, Carson Soucy, keeping JTMiller, Teddy Blueger, Big Z, keeping Connor Garland, and Casey Desmith, and Elias Lindholm!!

  7. Premature panic, I think DeSmith will be fine. This is the thing about goaltending… consistency is what makes a goalie elite. Any backup or no name goalie can go on a heater and play lights out. Did people forget Spencer Martin had a 0.950 SAV% in his 6 games when he debut on the Canucks team that was hot garbage. Those are ELITE numbers. He's currently have a 0.922 in 5 games in Carolina. Point is, DeSmith was solid early in the season, he can play well. I wouldn't trust him as a starter playing 60 games, but 5-10 games, it'll be fine.
