We made a minor improvement in an area we really needed it. Is it enough to get out of the 1st round? Maybe. Is it enough to get out of the 2nd round? Probably not. It's still an improvement nonetheless.

Tre will get destroyed for this, but Kyle Dubas is the one that traded away 14, FOURTEEN high draft picks in the past 3 trade deadlines to get MOPPED in the playoffs. That's 3 firsts, 5 seconds, 3 thirds, and 3 fourths, but really, who's counting? Kyle Dubas traded away essentially 3 full drafts.
Should we have traded another full draft worth to go "all-in" this year? For what, to get mopped again?? The Leafs traded a 3rd, a 4th, a 5th, and a 6th. Essentially about 40% of a draft.. basically the late round picks. I'm okay with this. It's a compromise between sitting on your hands and going all-in. The Leafs went with depth and not upsetting the room. Investing in the guys you have instead of investing in the guys you don't.
This whole year has been about improvement from within and improving as a team. This team will go as far as the players take them. Which, good. Why bail out a team's mistakes by giving away ENTIRE DRAFTS to cover over their mistakes?
This organization needs fixing, badly. It wasn't going to happen in a year. Heck, maybe it will, but it will be by the players who wear the blue and white. Not some boy wonder GM and "analytics", that turned out to be snake oil and traded away our ENTIRE future.
Enough wasted picks. Probably a good move. Improvement has got to come from within. Enough giving away $$ and draft picks to get mopped in the first round. I don't mind the 1-year contracts either. Make these guys earn their contracts based on how they play and in the playoffs. If they earn it, then maybe you extend them. Good call. And we needed bigger guys on the back end. These are B or C grade additions but they make us bigger and put Brodie back on the left. It'll be 3 different/equal d-pairs.. no #1 pair, but we'll see what happens.
Also, we need help on the PK and in front of the net. Well, we got 3 guys.
